Default Are Villages postal boxes secure?

We just moved here to the Villages and checked our mail for the first time and found a hand written note on top of our mail from the person who apparently shares the same postal box from the other side/opposite wall.
The note says “don’t rip down things on my side of the box.”
We were perplexed and had to get down on our hands and knees to look inside our newly assigned postal box to see there is no barrier between our boxes! How can this be allowed? So (me guessing), my neighbor thinks we tore things down in her mail box? Holy cow. This is weird and who does that?!

Who might we call to fix this, or is every mail box a sharing type of thing?

Thanks in advance.

That’s odd. What mail center are you talking about? All the mail centers I’ve seen do not “share” anything.

Our box is only accessible by us. Very strange talk to the mail carrier

I don't understand how your postal boxes are configured. If I look into mine I see more than 10 feet of empty space where the delivery person works. There is no way for me to reach anyone's box but my own.

The empty space at the end of the mailbox is where the mail person slides the mail in - if you are sharing the back with someone else, how does the mail get in?

Seems like it might be a note from mail person.

My guess is that Thomas is your mail person and by other side of the box he meant the interior opening. I wonder if there was some paper there that you removed, maybe the name of the previous owner of your box? A self- reminder to Thomas to check the names on the mail so as to not deliver material addressed to your home with the previous owner's name on it??

Addendum; Apparently there is no Thomas, the word is Thanks. Don't ask for Thomas.

The mail carriers occasionally put notes on the inside of the box to alert them to forward mail, hold mail, etc.

No one has access to your box.

This seems like a good explanation if in fact OP removed a note that was taped to the inside of his box. The "It does not concern you" could have been stated more kindly. "Thomas's" printing appears to be coming from a female. (For one thing, it's legible.) So maybe Thomasina.

You do not share a mailbox, the other side that you are looking at is the post office side. They do put notes there, for their use, I have a yellow post it note hanging there for months now, its not a concern, and I have no idea what it says, and will not remove, it since the post office person put it there.

The last word of the note says”Thanks” not “Thomas”.

We of course do not know where you are. I must say the people who run our pick up center are great.

As someone else said if, I had to guess the writer of that note is a female. I would go to where you pick up your mail and ask. If, the staff surely someone will recognize the handwriting.

Since all we get in the mail are bills and junk mail, anyone who wants our mail is welcome to help themselves.

OP seems to think there is a mailbox behind theirs. Don’t think they realize it’s a open isle for the workers.

As others have said you are not sharing a mailbox. The open end is how contractor places mail in all boxes. Our mail person has a sticky note on our box when we forward mail. And yes they do let you know not to remove their notes.

Yes it's the mail person saying leave their notes they stick on their side of the box, alone. They post notes to themselves like hold mail until, forward mail, etc. Don't take it personally. It's only business.

It looks like others have provided a reasonable answer (it’s the postal worker leaving a reminder) so here’s a bit of humor from yesteryear regarding a similar situation.
