Default Walk in the woods

My mother is missing trees - unfortunately we have few in Amelia. She loves nature and I would like to take her for a walk in the woods - preferably close by. I know that Ocala National Forest is not too far away but prefer the closest place to take a hike in nature. Would appreciate suggestions.

Oh, jojo, what a nice thought! Obviously, not being a resident until next week, I can't help with any advice, but I did want to say "bravo" for such a nice thing to do for Mom. Thanks for the smile.

Good to hear from you. Everyone is looking forward to your return. You were discussed at KB's last night! My mother's 96th birthday is November 17 and one of the things I wanted to do was find a hiking trail for her.

Be warned, my hubby took a photo of a 4-5 foot diamondback rattlesnake in Ocala last week! I have also seen 2 black bears there. The bears tend to run away. The snakes will bite! Be cautious!! May I suggest a nice boat ride in the Dora canal?

Lake Griffin State Park is very close to Hadley and easy to get to. I didn't see much because I just wanted to take a quick look around so they let me in without paying if I didn't stop my car. There is a mammoth Live Oak tree and a wooded path around it which branches off here and there. The tree is amazing. You can park your car in the little (3 space) lot just before the gate and go see the tree for free. You can rent a canoe, too. Here's the link for the park.

You'll have to copy and paste it if it isn't blue.

Default Silver Springs State Park

JoJo,

Just before reaching Silver Springs on Baseline Road there is a state park on the right. Drive in there to the parking lot and there is an easy trail that ends at the Silver Springs river.
If you need more detailed directions just post back here or PM me.

Jo's mother is a wonderful active person who speaks intelligently on all subjects and checks her stock investments on the computer. She is a reuser of products and has a grandson who is an ecologist. She wants a dog, but not a designer dog, a BIG "farm dog". She is a dear sweet smart treasure and apples don't fall too far from the tree.

We haven't met JoJo but I think it's wonderful your Mom can go hiking on her 96th and that she has a daughter who will make it happen. Happy 96th to Mom and do watch out for those diamondbacks!

There is a very nice park on SR 44 called Okahumpka Park, outside of Wildwood. Very nice trail thru the trees.
