Don't get me wrong, I far prefer Publix over anything else here but their success here can easily be attributed to the sheer amount of them. I don't consider Winn-Dixie a real option and it seems here in Florida unlike up north there isn't a lot of major competition.
Do you think Publix would build 10 stores if they didn’t think they would make money?

There’s a reason there are only 2 Walmarts……Walmart doesn’t think the market is there for 10 Walmarts.

Every few weeks I go to Winn Dixie to get a few things including their store brand diet root beer called “Chex”. The name brand root beers are outrageously high $$$ now and Chex is almost as good. Good enough to save $$$

Well today WD had my Chex “on sale”. Buy 2 get 1 free. OK. The regular price is 3 12 packs for $10. Today each was 5.99. So the deal is buy 2 for $12 get one free. I would not bend over for that. Please. I’ll drink what I have at home and check prices in a week or so.

It seems to me that they change the location of stuff about monthly or even more often, maybe weekly. But then I was in a Home Depot and had to ask an employee where something was and he complained that HD moves stuff around with some regularity. Anything to keep the buyer in the store longer looking at the shelves. That's why I do online shopping often.

Huh? What? Of course that's true. The point was they CAN'T HELP being successful HERE (which was the comment I replied to) seeing as they are just about on every corner and most convenient and most folks prefer to shop closer to home rather than (for some) a 15-20 mile RT to Walmart or Target neither of which are truly a supermarket despite what they call themselves. That plus they can afford to pay the Morse Vigorish. There's Winn-Dixie but I consider them here more of an overpriced 7-11/WAWA with much less of a selection than Publix (they recently restructured and removed a lot of departments). The only time I see W.D. busy HERE is when they only have 1 or 2 cashiers and the lines become long because they have no help (and no self-checkout registers at LSL store) . Even stranger is their logo says they are "the beef people" and don't even carry prime beef around here.

So finally went to newly remodeled Walmart market ( we call it baby Walmart). Space between shelves seem the same, so when one leaves their cart to stand in front of display its hard to get past them.

I found English muffins in four different areas, guessing the suppliers who lost end cap display is getting more exposure. The expansion of self checkout is definitely an improvement, as far as tap and pay, I never go out of the house with just my watch to pay, so not a big deal to just use a credit card.

Love Walmart pickup. Purchase $35, really easy, no fee (won't take tip, not allowed), pop trunk, and off you go. If out of stock, they up grade product for same price. Give "goody bags" frequently. No brainer for me. Added bonus, when purchasing on line, not tempted to buy what you don't need.

Not sure of the reference...The Wal-Mart on 441 a couple of blocks from Aldi?

Not sure what that "remodel" (more like rearrangement) was intended to accomplish. But what it DID do is to totally snarl shopper and cart traffic. The cat food aisle for example: now way in the back of the store in an aisle so narrow that two carts cannot meet in it. One has to turn around and go back. I've taken to parking my cart in an open area (usually between aisle displays), then go and get my item(s) and carrying them back to the cart.

Prices aren't always the cheapest around either. Our coffee grinder lunched itself after several years of service and we stopped by Wal-Mart for a new one. They had exactly ONE brand, selling for $45. No deal. I found one on Amazon the same day (Krups) for half the price plus prime one-day delivery.

Every time I go to that particular Wal-Mart I get irritated. But I keep going back, and despite what I see as off-the-wall merchandise arrangements and limited choices the place is always full.

Topic of this thread is Walmart Remodel on herald way

I shop there for 2 items, Indian River OJ, and grapefruit juice. I didn’t think this Walmart carried small appliances, you may be on the wrong thread. This is about the Walmart market, and the remodel of the aisles, with the removal of the center aisle, the addition of more self checkout.

I already tried to get this thread back on topic but nobody is paying attention. Instead it's turned into a generic Walmart verse Publix thread. Go figure.

More reasons why to not go to Walmart. 1st time I was in one of their stores, felt like I was at an auditon for a Jerry Springer show. Worst check out counters/system in any store.
