Default Warning. Lake Miona rec center

Tonight was the Marine Ball at Lake Miona rec center and it had to be 100 degrees in the large room. Completely unacceptable. Before anyone jumps on me, this is why. A week ago my husband and I went to a Dance there and noticed the ac wasn't working and everyone was sweating even with the fan they brought in. Last night my husband had to go there with the color guard to practice their drill. When he returned he mentioned how hot the room was again. With women dressed in gowns, men in dress blues, etc. Tonight was completely unacceptable. The villages had to have notice of problems with the ac and did not repair immediately hopefully this does not become the norm. Needless to say, we had to leave as most people did. $90.oo down the drain

Ouch! Not good at all; hope things like this doesn't become a new norm.

Did you ask the rec center supervisor why the AC wasn't working? Could be a part is back ordered. These are large commercial units not like the ones in our houses. Help me understand why you think this will not be fixed? I have not observed anything in need of repair around here that doesn't get immediate attention. The flowers around here get changed before they need water (humor). I'm still living the dream.

Maybe sometime down the road it will be fixed but like I mentioned Nov 1st we were at a Dance there and it wasn't working. Last night was the 7th of Nov. No excuse. When you know you have a big formal event scheduled such as a Marine Ball, you either get it fixed immediately or you move the event to another rec center. Honor our military with respect. They deserve it. It wasn't a game night, but a formal event. Shame on the villages

I doubt if it was an intentional slight of the military in any way. As to finding the part ther are plenty of distributors in Orlando, Jacksonville and Tampa to supply it. Now if it was a problem requiring a unit replacement I could see that taking a few days to get it delivered and installed. Sounds to me like someone did not realize how serious it could become. Even with a temp. Drop after sunset these vuildings still retain the indoors temps.

You have a point. It just sounds like someone who manages the Lake Miona Rec. Center had not planned for the unseasonably warm weather this November. I do not see an intentional slight of our military just someone not planning things out really well.

I'm not stating it was an intentional slight of our military. The point I am trying to make is they had plenty of time prior to the ball to have it repaired. Yes I know of Eisenhower. Matter of fact this Tues night we have the Military ball there. Lake Miona was booked one year ago. Knowing the ac wasn't working properly at least one week before the ball then they could have moved us elsewhere for the night. no excuse for an expensive formal night to have gone through this. Let's hope Tues night is better

I do think some management of the Villages reads TOTV so hopefully it will.

I think the OP has a valid concern..but I don't think it was an intentional slap at the military. The reason I say this , did you ever try to get a light bulb changed at a rec center??? Believe me its as bureaucratic as it can get. The front desk makes a note but they can do nothing until the electrician makes his rounds to that particular center. Sometimes it can easily be 2 weeks before a light bulb is changed. Although this maintenance problem happened on the night of a Marine Corps Ball, it does not suprize me the same is true for getting the AC checked. The Rec Manager for that facility should have elevated the problem when brought to his/her attention to get a major problem like no AC fixed before the event.

I am sorry it was hot and particularly that you lost ninety bucks of a good time but they couldn't just move you. The rec centers are booked solid well in advance. Imagine telling the Long Islanders or the Buckeye Club that their event was cancelled so that another group could use their room. I agree with RustyP that things are very well maintained generally. AND I am usually freezing to death in the rec centers.

I am not thinking this is the new norm. Bogie will tell us who is in charge of this kind of thing and you can find out for yourself why the air conditioning wasn't working well and please come back on and tell us.

AND I have experienced a long wait (a month) before a light tube that was flickering in the art room at Laurel Manor was replaced. But that didn't cost me ninety bucks.

I was there this past Wednesday and it was nice and cool in the rec center. you mention your hubby was there twice before the ball, did he mention it either time to the manager?
