During a wash cycle my 10 year old Whirlpool washer started making a loud grinding like noise. Never heard a sound like that before. Had to shut washer down with a full tub of rinse water. Looks like time for a new washer. Looking for recommendations as to where to buy both a new washer and dryer. Thinking about an LG. Thanks for replies and Happy New Year!

Best Buy or Lowes. Home Depot is not as friendly to deal with.
I wouldn't limit my choice to LG. I really don't think that the brand matters that much. Make sure that the brand you buy has local warranty repair technicians available. I think that Whirlpool and GE both do. |

I watch people, shoppers in action. People waiting to speak to a sales person and some of the entitled masses decides to cut in. Imagine dealing with that all day long and needing the job. I've found good people and not so good people at all the mentioned stores. Today, I do most of my shopping on line. I research if they have it in stock and where in the store it is. In terms of repair service, they are all great in their ads. Reality is the reviews and not the ones the company filters on their website. Often the problem is having parts for repairs. I do not claim to be an expert. We have Whirlpool it is ten years old. We had a warranty repair that the company did at N/C the unit was about a year out of warranty. Far as our washer and dryer, we bought GE, we bought units with as few gadgets as possible. My view the more gadgets the more repairs. They are also ten years old. Only repair was a PLASITIC knob. The knob has been redesigned. Clearly they knew they had a poorly designed part. I patched it. When it broke again, after two or so years, I gave in and bought the new part for roughly $10. LG is made in Korea-I think. Current trade issues may cause a buyer trouble. |

If you are handy or enjoy DIY it might be a simple DIY fix. Look up your model number, enter on Google and likely find dozens of YouTube videos to help. There isn't too much to a washer or dryer. If you want a new one, GO FOR IT!

I would, fish out the clothes and see if something left in the pockets etc is causing the noise. It would not be the first time that someone discovered where their cell phone ended up. Getting rid of the water. I've seen too many murder movies and so would not use plug in tools to drain water. Easy solutions. You can buy inexpensively a hand pump. You can buy inexpensively a pump to use with a rechargeable drill. You can buy inexpensively a pump designed as a small boat bilge pump that you can run off a 12 v battery. You have one in your golf cart. Simple to remove and put back. A repair person? Typical roughly 85 to come to your home. Parts, $30 or so. Cost 100-150. Far less than buying new. Truth, they do not make them like they used to. In our previous home we got a maytag washer with the original purchase and a GE dryer. After 40 years they were still running. We left them with the house when we sold it. Said in the contract no warranty. My sister has a GE refrigerator that came with her house when she bought it. She gave or sold the house to her daughter about ten years ago. It was the type with the motor on top. The date on the motor is 1936. Far as I know it is still running. |

We bought from Lowes and was very happy with product, price and service.
FWIW we bought a Maytag pair. They look and appear to have the same features which tells me they are made in the same place and just put different names on them.... Last edited by GpaVader; 12-31-2021 at 02:11 PM. |

I just replaced my Maytag washer and Dryer which I purchased 14 years ago from Home Depot. I now have a new Maytag washer and dryer…and I hope they last as long. I know whirlpool now owns Maytag….but from my discovery, it appears they are still manufactured in their own plant. Home Depot in NY, southern Fl and here in the villages have always been great to work with.
