Default A/c problem in 7 year old camellia

I am visiting friends who have a 7 year old Camellia, and are having A/C issues.

They are being told the unit is a "5 year" unit, and should be replaced, rather than "throwing more money into it"..

SunKool is the company; are they reputable? The owners closed 6 years ago, and the unit instal date is 9/06, so the install is less than 7 years.

Any advice?

thanks,

DanL

SunKool is my company and all of the people I have dealt with over the last six years have been very reasonable pleasant and have never cause me to question their integrity.

It may be a break inthe freon line or perhaps the condensation line is clogged.

If your friend believes the claims are bogus he or she may want a second opinion

Definitely get a second opinion. Want an honest assessment of the problem? Call Chuck Farrell.

STOP!!!!!! Do not spend a nickel until you call in Chuck Farrell Co. There are lots of comments about his work in this forum and I don't think I've ever seen a negative one.

The warranty is 5 years, not the unit. Definitely get another opinion.

I think in 40 years I have had two or three central air conditioners. I would get the second opinion as I would expect 10 to 15 years if the unit was a high quality unit.

Parts on the new units being installed now are warranted for 10 years but you should be able to check with the warranty department on your address to find out for sure on your AC system. Be sure to find out if the problem is due the copper line leaking if it is buried in the ground. If it is a leak in the line it is now covered for 10 years. There are specific guidelines to follow to be reimbursed if it is a copper line failure.

Check this site for more info.

HVAC WARRANTY FOR COPPER TUBING

AC UNDERGOUND REFRIGERANT LINE SERVICE WARRANTY EXTENDED.

Additional Information can be found here: Property Owners, Association of Florida

See pages 15 and 16 at this link: http://www.poa4us.org/bulletins_file...etin201201.pdf

From the first website above:

AC UNDERGOUND REFRIGERANT LINE SERVICE WARRANTY EXTENDED

The POA would like to thank the Developer, along with the air conditioning subcontractors who were involved, for taking financial responsibility for the repair and replacement of HVAC copper refrigerant lines, together with the cost of the repair and/or replacement of other air conditioner components whose failure is reasonably related to the failure or leaking of such HVAC lines due to corrosion.

As I have posted before, we loved Sumter Air and Heat.

I was an air conditioning contractor for 38 years, and this sounds suspect. Exactly what was the diagnosis? Even if the compressor (the most expensive part in the unit) has failed many of the manufacturers give a ten year warranty on the compressor. Get the facts before making a decision. An upgrade from a 7 year old unit would be marginally more efficient and not worth the cost. PM me if needed.
