For those in a CYV with the water shut off outside in front of house under a lawn cover what tool or did you design a tool that makes it so you don't have to get on your hands and knees on the rocks to turn off the valve.
Or do they sell a long tool that fits on that odd valve handle? It looks like a rectangular nub. Also anyone who had a water shut off installed in garage what did you pay and who did you use? |

It sounds like you are looking for a tool to manipulate the shutoff valve intended to be used by the utility company and not the homeowner. Are you sure there isn't already a shutoff in your garage?

It might depend on when the villa was built.

There was a previous thread that indicated many older villas had the owner accessible shut off valve in the lawn (garden) outside of the house, and over the years and possible previous owners became buried. Not sure of an easy way to find this valve, but if you do dig it out, and install some type of cover so you can get to it later.

What a weird design and location for the water shutoff. I will look into having a water shutoff valve installed in garage as this is not a ideal location and it being exposed to the elements will probably shorten it's life span. Thanks again. |

There is a shut off in your garage. Look for it and you will find it. No need to do anything out in front. It will be white pvc and will turn off with a 1/4 turn. PVC weakens in heat and over time to be gentle with it or you will have a water emergency.

I already had an emergency for 800 $. I need a water leak detector that can be used for a courtyard villa-the meter is underground. Flume has been recommended, but where is it installed? You are correct about pcv pipe.

Lowes, home depot & Ace all have the tool that allows you to shutoff the water at the meter.
It's about $13 |

I have about 8 battery operated water detectors in my house located on the floor under toilets, sinks, refrigerator, washer, and water heater. These will sound an alarm similar to a smoke detector when there is a leak. You can buy them on Amazon for about 10 dollars each. It is an easy and cheap way to go. You just set the unit on the floor or in a sink cabinet. |

CORRECT -> I was surprised to learn that it does strap to the meter itself. Now I need to learn more about how it actually works. The Flume device is about six inches long. I believe I have enough space in my meter box but I haven't dug the ten years of grime out of it to see for sure. Do you know if the water company has a policy about customers placing the Flume device in the meter box?
