I used to think the gates should have electric voltage running through them, but I have mellowed a bit.
Good one!

The same is true for the gate at Pinelas (eastbound) & Buena Vista for the Village of Gilchrist.

The Belvedere gate is down more than its working. We have one resident gate and a golf cart gate. I think it is the worst entrance in the villages.

Hang around the St. James gate if you want to see some auto vs gate action!

A lot of gates get knocked down. Thank goodness we have such great staff that makes sure they are repaired. Bet those that knock them down, won't do it very often. I bet it costs them more than it costs to fix the gate.

I like the idea of speed bumps. That would slow folks down and make them think. Maybe even make them drop their phones when they are texting.

They could be restricted to hoverounds. It would be interesting to see them crash through the gates in one of them...

I was told that their have been strange lights around the gates late at night. moving at amazing speeds. lights seem to hover near the gates then race thru breaking them. Then the lights speed high into the sky and are gone.

Easy, peasy. Have you seen the many bicyclists that blow through stop signs and also disregard the rules of the road? Every morning during my 5 mile walk I see many more bicyclists disregard stop signs than golf carts. Full disclosure, I ride both.

The thread is about gates. While the St. James visitor's card scanner was damaged, cart drivers took their life in their own hands crossing or turning onto St. Charles. There was a stop sign at the disabled visitor's gate that vehicle drivers (residents, visitors and commercial vehicles) disregarded many times everyday JUST TO SAVE THOSE FEW SECONDS. I have worked many stop sign/light accidents in my career and believe me, some of them weren't pretty.

I totally agree. The gates exist solely for the purpose of traffic flow control. We are not living in a gated community; we live in a community that have gates which are accessible to the public.

Too bad they don't put gates at each intersection stop sign. I know, off subject. The problem is reckless operation of the motor vehicles, whether golf cart or car or truck. The solution is NOT to remove the gates. The gates are good. People are bad. Just kidding, people are careless and/or stupid. If they are breaking the gates, then they will pay for them AND the damage to their vehicle. I did notice that they remove the pole when they service them or repair them, and that can be quite often with some gates, and not so much for others. Someone suggested speed bumps at the gates. I think that would be an excellent idea.
