Since we have slowly moved from one house to another to the last one TV with furniture and I have started bringing stuff down from up north house. We have two bedroom sets in TV, a living room set, dinette set not a fan of, dining room table I can live with.
I have started bringing down dishes and glasses in my carry-on because they're important to me. I love my dining room set up north although it's a light oak. Did anyone find it was worth your while to bring some of your furniture cost wise. I am only looking at a bedroom, dining and love seat. I've been to all of the furniture stores from TV to Orlando to Ocala. Not a fan. I am emptying out one room at a time throwing away giving away and selling. So far I'm finding this OK but I'm also coming from an 1800 square-foot basement four bedrooms and I'm starting to get a little anxiety attacks when I walk around and go crap now what. Anyone else having this issue I have a few years to get everything down before I sell the up north house but this is just hard.

We have some pieces that we love and did move into our Villages home. We felt it was worth the cost (Pods). We brought a dining hutch, bed, double leather sofa recliner and some paintings. I was concerned with having too much furniture in our Villages home but I think we've struck the right balance. Our other bedroom furniture wasn't worth the price for bringing down. It's hard to let go of things but it's also freeing. Our process is at the same pace as yours. Eventually we will have an estate sale with whatever is left. My husband has quite a collection of Hummel figurines...if anyone is interested let me know PLEASE! ![]() Good luck! Little by little you'll get the job done. Time is on our side with this task!

I'm going to be in the same boat!! Mom and I have been renting our unfurnished TV home in a long-term rental program since 2012. I have a list of what I want to take to TV when the time comes. The plan now is to move: Mom's bedroom suite (2 years old), Mom's two lift chairs, a curio cabinet, TV cabinet, breakfast table and 3 bar stools. I've looked in Ocala, Leesburg and TV and I haven't seen anything that I like as much as the items I already have. Babettes didn't even acknowledge the three of us were in the store! And then there is all of the paperwork -- I have a ton of genealogy materials.
My problem is when I retired and moved home to help with my late father, I moved my stuff home then! Luckily, our Michigan home is large enough to hold my stuff and their stuff! So, I'm basically going to have to widdle down two homes to one! Yikes! I'm not looking forward to this as Mom has a lot of sentimental feelings over things my Dad gave her! I would really like to take my home out of the rental program and at least be in TV part time. Unfortunately, my 91 year old mother likes the four seasons, her friends and family, her church and her Michigan doctors

I'm a man, so don't take what I say seriously. But it seems, money-wise, it makes more sense to buy furniture in or near The Villages rather than pay hundreds of dollars to move older furniture, albeit maybe of sentimental value, south to Florida. As I said, I'm just a guy, who I'm NOT an expert on furniture, to buy, to choose, only to sit and lie on.

I had the luxury of many months to get rid of unwanted items or items I had no intention of bringing with me. One must ask oneself, when is the last time I had the need for this? For big stuff like furniture, I have found it easier to start anew.
Moving from one state to another poses the difficult problem of what to bring. One must decide what you cannot part with, and what you can. I personally find it a freeing process to declutter and buy new, as the cost of moving, is prohibited. It is exhausting but worth the effort. Good luck!

We are in process of packing to move to Villages now. I just ask myself will someone else use this item more than I.
I've sold a lot on Craigslist, Ebay and Amazon and donated alot. For some items I offered up as free I was surprised by the number of people who offered to take it. Yesterday for example, I offered up some paint..I separated the old paint from the new paint. There were about 15 cans of old that needed to be tossed. And maybe 30 new partial cans etc. I posted an ad on Craigslist offering free paint with pic and description. Within minutes someone came and took it all AND they took the old too! Not sure what their plans were. Selling off what I dont want is paying for our golf cart! |
