There was a big one today in Calumet. You can't believe the way the people were making u-turns in the road, parking cockeyed, running through traffic or backing up into oncoming traffic. One guy parked smack in the intersection with the rear end of his car sticking out into Calument Blvd.

What's the deal? Can anybody explain it?

Once again....no police patrols....so no need to respect the law.

Easy answer:

It's the trill of the hunt and bargins to be had that make yard sale " junkies" lose there manners. I have seen it time and again.

Absolutely right Beady. I used to be part of that insane buying frenzy! Especially the antique dealers. It seems that I was in such a hurry to find that rare unusual antique a sort of craziness comes over you. In retrospect I cant believe I felt that way over an old piece of junk, but when your buying and selling all you can see is dollar signs. Sure glad I got over it before someone got killed. :

Now this gets ridiculous. Many rear end collisions during this event. The news media loves to cover this. 2 lane Hwy with 55 MPH speed limit and idiots everywhere. They come from all over for this annual event. Unfortunately I have to travel this area while this is going on. As bad as driving in round a bouts.

F16 I know that route and have traveled it quite a few times and it astounds me that they hold that sale out there. I know it runs for a hundred miles or more. Make sure to avoid that area when it is going on.

It's the treasure hunt mentality. Last year I found a Roseville Vase in prestine condition at a yard sale. They were asking $5.00 and I got him down to $3. Three weeks later I sold it on eBay for $110. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Ya gotta love yard sales!!!

It is just astounding. My post about why people drive in a dangerous fashion to get to garage sales, has turned into a threat "patting them on the head" for doing it.

Try 630 miles. You may wind up as a hood ornament. Way too many lookers with no sense of direction. Like being in a mall parking lot on Christmas Eve.

Jan, I've seen the same thing at Village Open Houses. People blocking driveways; backing into oncoming traffic; parking on both sides of the road, blocking local traffic; etc. Seems people get so excited about the idea of getting a bargain they just lose all their manners. Have you been at Bealls on Senior Discount Day? Same deal.

Are you allowed to have garage sales in TV? I've never had one but I enjoy going to one on occasion.

choo-choo,

Absolutely!!! They are advertised in the paper. I get the Thurs paper and plan out a route for Fri or Sat am (gotta get out early) and jump in the golf cart and go....golf cart yard sailing is so cool...easy to whip in and out, limits how much big stuff you can buy. Stuff here can be pretty good....things people brought down with them that they now realize they don't need. Lots of books and golf equipment too.
