Some are in albums. Most are in a bunch of plastic shoeboxes. If my heirs want to take the time to sort them out that'll be fine with me.

I had to sort all the many pictures of my husband for his memorial service. Heartbreaking job. Don't wanna to that any more.

Hi:
Before we moved we went through the photos and trashed the duplicates and bad photos that were not clear. Threw away the landscape photos. The pictures of our childhood I sent to my niece who scanned them and put them on line for all of the family to see. The digital ones I took off my computer and put on a thumb drive. I keep the thumb drive plugged into my computer so it's easy access. I took all of the CD's of photos and copied them to the thumb drive as well as I heard that CD's won't be around that many more years. I still have 12 photo albums of pictures that were taken back in the 70's and 80's that I will give to our son eventually when he gets his house. The loose pictures are in one plastic box in the top of our closet. |

be SURE you have Carbonite or some other program to save all your computer stuff if you put everything on computer and then destroy the originals......I have so much concern destroying original photos of people....trees and mountains I am ok with, but family, even unidentifiable people are hard to destroy.

Had a HUGE box full of photos and books filled with photos. So made piles...to my kids and what few I might want to keep. Figured "IF" I wanted to view the photos that hardly anyone looked at anymore, our kids could go to the trouble of scanning them and sending them to me!! I found in down-sizing it was more of an emotional attachment thing...used the "want/need" thing and that (for me) made it alot easier! Haven't missed them since being here neither!!

Oh...I didn't mention the boxes and boxes of slides we have stowed away.....taking up room in a closet. Spouse wouldn't let me go through those so rather we brought them along. Don't know that we have a projector anymore to view them...or a screen. I would suspect some years down the line (unless we take the time to find someone to scan them) they too will go by the way-side!!

Kept a few special ones. Let the kids sort out what they wanted.
Many from my parents I inherited most of us were looking at saying. " Who is that or them? " We had a Pic review party. Looked them all over then split them up and threw out the rest. It was their memories not ours. Memories I want are still in my mind. We honestly felt they would just sit in a Hot attic down here ignored. H |

Made two large collages of the best and included all of the ones of me when my figure was better and all of those of the kids looking angelic and standing in front of the neighbors more expensive cars......
And framed them and hung them in the back hall near the laundry room and am getting those wall words to put above them to say.. The Way We Were. Put the rest in file boxes. They make me sad...kinda...

I have been working on this for quite a while.
Pictures dating back late 1800's. Made copies and sent to family members, Gave original old photos and letters from before civil war and after to the Confederate Museum of Virginia for their history collection. Threw away all duplicates, scanned and stored on external hard drive Hubby made copies and sent to his family. Still have a bunch to go but we are slowly getting there. ![]() |
