What Happened To The Driving Range Behind Walmart?
I drove by the driving range behind the Walmart on 466 today, disappointed to see no golfers, the grass grown long, and hay bales scattered around what had been the landing area. There seemed to be some signs taped to the door, but I didn't have time to go look to see what they said.
What happened? Has it closed down? It was always one of the nicest driving ranges in The Villages, well-maintained grass tees, good balls, fairly priced. It would be a shame, but that's the way it looks. A pasture instead of a nice driving range.

I think a lot of their business went around the corner to the Oxford Driving Range, I've been there twice recently. It's on 301 about a mile south of 466, southbound it would be on your left. Big bucket of balls is only $7, the balls are all new as of last week and they have a lot of yard markers. The grass is also pretty good to hit from.

Lions Club/VFW driving range off Rolling Acres Road is golf cart accessible and large bucket of balls is on $4.00. Proceeds support local charities.
Try it, you'll like it. |

I like this place. They have a HUGH basket of balls for $4.00 and use the yellow balls for my ole eyes... Like them... And it backs up to the Villages so you can get there by golf cart.

Lions Club VFW Driving Range off of Rolling Acres Road
Can you please give me directions to the Lions Club VFW Driving Range via golf cart? I live in the Village of Sanibel.
Thanks, Janet |

I've never driven over to the Rolling Acres range by golf cart because it's mats only, that's a good way to mess up your swing and your clubs. You'll come away with a false impression of hitting the ball much better than you would off real grass. However, from your location, if you like mats you've got the Sarasota Driving Range 5 minutes your house, which is mostly mats. Otherwise you're looking at about a 35 minute golf cart ride through a couple of tunnels, the Morse Bridge and a lot of turns to reach the Lions Club Range on Rolling Acres Rd. If you want variety, try the Arnold Palmer Range, it's probably only 25 minutes or less and has both turf and mats and it's right in The Villages. Otherwise, I would jump in the car and go to either the Oxford Driving Range on Hwy 301 near Walmart or the Tree Top Driving Range on Rolling Acres Rd. behind the VFW.

Driving range
Why don't you go to the Sarasota Driving Range off Morse Blvd.? It is closer than going to the VFW Range.

The Lions Club/American Legion range is on Rolling Acres road. To my knowledge, the VFW is not affiliated any with driving range around TV.

Oops, meant the American legion driving range, not VFW. Anyway, Sarasota driving range or the range at Palmer would be closer to the OP home.

Thanks. I am not crazy about Sarasota since I hit my ball into the water. I am new to golf so I like to see where my ball goes on the grass. We usually practice at Palmer's, nice place.
Thanks Again, Janet |
