Sarasota is mats only on Mondays and Wednesdays. All other days you hit off grass.

Default Driving range behind Walmart

I drove by the driving range behind 466 Walmart today. The sign in the door states they will open August 15th.

Default Map to get to driving range

Attached is a map showing Morse Blvd north of the bridge from Lake Sumter Landing. You would take Morse north to Rio Grande and turn right, go to Chula Vista and turn right, to Palermo and turn left. There is a golf cart exit off Palermo before it turns left (the second time) and the path marked in blue takes you out near Rolling Acres, then a left toward the Villages Woodworking Shop will take you by the driving range.

There is also a golf cart path that runs parallel to Chula Vista (marked in pink) that would get you down to Palermo, but I've never been on it...

When I was there a few months ago, you could definitely hit off grass. The range faces west, so I'd go in the morning.

For those who like hitting off mats, Sarasota is "mats only" on Monday and Wednesdays, Palmer is mats only on Tues. and Thursdays, and Glenview is mats only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Even though I live in Pennecamp, I enjoy the cart ride to the Lions Club range on Rolling Acres. The mats there are kind of old and hard as a rock, but my money goes to some good causes. The guy who runs the range in Oxford is real nice and unlike the ranges in TV, you can always find some good grass to hit off of. That may change as more people find out about him and he gets busier.

I actually prefer Sarasota BECAUSE I can see exactly where my ball lands. Carry distance it the most important thing for my game since I hit it very high with little to no roll. I have been told that Oxford has a deal for $12 you can hit balls all day long. Hit some in the morning, go back home for lunch, come back and hit more until your hands fall off

And, best of all - our very own Sandra Chester is one of the golf pros at Oxford.
