Hi Ginna! Welcome! You can sign up for Pickleball 101. I believe it is still offered at various locations, Sterling Heights, Seabreeze, Colony and another facility but can't remember which one right off the top of my head. They give you a 2 hour free lesson on proper techniques of the game. There are a few women in St. James who just started. Me...I could never get into a lesson because I always remembered a day late and by then the class was full. Call any of those facilities and I am sure they will tell you the times available. If you ever want to get together with other nubies, send me a private message with your phone number. Have fun!

If it proves to be too hard to get a spot for the free 101 lessons, you can also get private and semiprivate pickleball lessons (for a price) through the Life Long Learning Center (352) 753-3035.

I instruct PB101 and we get 24 people signed up and have 6 standby so they schedule 6 instuctors, who volunteer their time. Come the day of the lessons, 17 or 18 people show up. Please, if you sign up, show up for the lessons.

When I started a year or 2 ago as a raw novice, after PB 101, I started playing at any "Beginner open PB" schedules(see Rec News) that I could make.
Everyone in the same boat.....played those until PB volunteers told me I was ready to play at normal Open PB times.

Be persistent in calling the rec centers that are offering PB 101 lessons and call them close to 8:30 AM a week before the scheduled class. These classes fill up very quickly.
I had my PB101 lesson today and it was a great experience. The instructors are volunteers and they gave us a great baseline from which to build our game.
