Actually the wasp puts the spiders into the mud tube so when the larva are growing they have something to eat.

They DO bite. Even though Wikipedia says they rarely bite, and only if they feel threatened, I’m here to tell you they can feel threat if you even approach there area and have no idea they’re there. I went to water my plants and got bit in the calf. It was painful and I had a welt on it for most of the day, though I sprayed the area with alcohol. That’s when we noticed that we had a nest on the eaves above where the pots were.

They can also nest in your bushes. We find a nest every once in a while when our landscaper trims...

If you don't like using wasp & hornet spray, Mix two tablespoons of dish soap into a cup of water and spray; the soap plugs their breathing pores and kills them nearly instantly.

i use a spray bottle of water and a tooth brush to remove the nest.
