Just to be clear our freezer is mostly empty except for a few items in a vac sealed pouches which would not stink up the refrig.

I get a text from my alarm company when the power goes out so I know but a lot of people have no idea. Also SECO has my email and phone for billing purposes. If power was going to be off for a long time they could easily do a blast email advising the condition. That is not unreasonable or impossible.

But thankfully, the power was not off for a long time. One of the plusses of mostly underground utilities.

But... who would come in and clean out your freezer/fridge? Is that something your home watch people would do? Would they throw it out, or...?

Short of a natural or man made disaster I could care less about SECO communicating and substantially more about them restoring power ASAP.

We take our power sources for granted until we lose them. Let's hope the government has an effective catastrophic plan. God, I lost my head there for a moment effective and government is an oxymoron

Except when everyone decides to reply to their email. Of course they could set it up so they couldn't take a reply then the other half of the subscribers would be P+++ed off. They do have a status page online, accessible from your smartphone.

JUST REMEMBER HIDE SITE IS 20/20
Until it is back up they always don't know how long it will be down depending on the repair and how it goes.
