My wife are finally moving to our home in TV , arriving on 31 AUG. We need to buy a new Washer and Dryer. We are currently considering a LG 4.2 cu ft Stainless Steel front load washer (WM3875HVCA) and the matching electric steam dryer (DLEX3875E). We've spent most of the last 35 years overseas and are inexperienced in buying appliances in the U.S. . Any recommendations concerning washers/dryers and where to buy them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Let me express my experience. We moved to TV 4 1/2 years ago. We used the GE washer and dryer for 4 years but I knew I would not spend a dime for repairs. The washer started skipping cycles and the dryer was making funny noises so I started researching replacements.

I read all the reviews on the big box stores websites on the HE front loaders. I also looked at www.complaints.com and found all sorts of negative reviews on those models. There were complaints of mold, bad odors and tangled laundry. You also could not add clothes once the washer started. They have all these digital control panels that have costly repairs if needed. I just wanted a work horse model!

I then found an ad for Speed Queen. I remembered they specialized in laundramat machines but they do have home models. I checked for reviews and they were awesome!

2. 3 year warranty included

3. Heavy Duty basic machine made by a company that only makes washers and dryers.

4. No compaints just rave reviews found online


We found a dealer in Bellview ABC Frederiocks

We made this purchase last February and have been happy ever since.

What a surprise! Seacruiser's post mimics what I would have written.

I began the search thinking I wanted one of the well known front loaders but found the same negative comments popping up that Seacruiser listed.

Some positives on Speed Queen were mentioned. Speed Queen? Did more googling and decided upon Speed Queen.

You won't find the brand in the big box stores. Again, as Seacruiser did, I bought mine from ABC Fredericks in Belleview (6658 S.E. 110th Street; 352-629-5181). The set was delivered at the end of May. (As an aside, the men who removed the old and installed the new were VERY mindful of the door frames, new paint job, etc. in the laundry room. Not a nick or scratch to be found!)

I'm very happy with my purchase. One of my husband's previously perennially dirty work shirts came out so much cleaner that I thought it went in the "good" pile.

We just closed 2 weeks ago in TV and we bought all of our appliances at HHGregg. We ordered them in VA and they came from the Ocala store. We bought LG Washer and Dryer. I have had a front loader for the past 7 years and the greatest feature is their low consumption of water, which is a great savings. The negatives are there is a chance of mold on the inner seal and in my opinion cannot handle a comforter as well as a top loader. Check out the LG top loader, WT5101HV(4.5 cu ft) and dryer DLEX5101V. They are both stainless steel, the top loader is HE(high effiency) just like the front loaders, so it uses only a small amount of water. The dryer is a steam dryer. I spent quite some time researching all 6 of my new appliances and I am very happy with my choices. Also with this top loader there is not need to purchase the stand for it that you would need with the front loader. Sometimes the stores do have deals with the stands, but like I said I am very happy with what we bought.

Just a little helpful hint. To prevent mold on the front loading washers, leave the door ajar after you remove the wet clothes. Every month or so, wipe the rubber gasket around the door with a damp rag or paper towel with bleach or white vinegar.

We were looking for a very specific color so we compared at all the very local stores. Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes.

Here is a bit of advice from the washer-dryer repair man at a reputable, decades-old family owned dealership near our last home up north:

He said it is getting harder and harder for independent repairmen (he himself was an independent who was sent overflow work from the dealer) to repair the nice foreign brands we like by LG, Bosch, Fisher Paykel, because the manufacturers are, or soon will be, selling parts only to dealers who service and sell them.

I know that dealership we had bought from services only units in these brands that THEY have sold.....will not service units sold by other stores like Lowes, HG Gregg, etc. His ardent advice was that if you're going to buy a brand like LG, Bosch, or Fisher Paykel, do not buy it at big box store, but rather, from a local dealer who can get parts and will do the service on it later.

I like Speed Queen too, and when our GE's croak, that is probably what we will get from the dealer listed above. Made in USA.....want to get that whenever possible.

I have a front loader Whirlpool washer that has performed well for several years. I also leave the door open when not in use to dry the insides of the washer. I also remove the soap/bleach/softener tray and let it dry as well. Since my washer is in the garage, it is not a problem especially with the heat in the warmer months. These front loaders save a lot of water and energy and are so quiet that I do not notice that it is in operation.

I have LG front loaders and am very happy with them. They are in the garage, I do leave the washer door ajar. Would also like to mention that, at least with my washer, I can open the door and add articles after the cycle has started. I pause the unit, within 2 seconds the door unlocks and I then open it. Alot less water is used for laundry.
