Default Where have all the gators gone?

The stretch of Corbin from Marsh Bend to McNeil was full of gators up until @ 2 weeks ago. Including the resident Bull Gator I called "Big Boy" (about 10 footer). For the past 2 weeks, we cannot find a single gator in any of the ponds along Corbin. Where did they go?

The gators are definitely out of sorts during this severe drought. I’ve played a dozen rounds of Championship golf during the last two and a half weeks and can count the number of gators I’ve seen on one hand. Typically during this time of the year I would see several gators daily, especially at Belle Glade and Palmer. Below is the only large gator I recently spotted (it was on Riley Grove at Palmer).

They might be keeping watch over their nests out of sight. The females usually hang out close to the nest for about 60–70 days while it’s incubating.

If you spot a pile of plants near a pond or marsh, it’s a good idea to keep your distance—especially if you see any little alligators around, because the mom is probably right there.

According to AI
You haven't been seeing as many gators in your local retention ponds due to recent dry spells lowering pond levels, making the reptiles move to deeper lakes or canals.

They are also traveling overland in search of new territories or hiding in muddy banks to stay cool during warmer temperatures.

While they might seem to disappear, gators are constantly moving between bodies of water.

Several factors explain their current behavior:

Lower Water Levels: Many shallow retention ponds and water hazards have dried up or dropped below their usual capacity, forcing gators to relocate to deeper, more permanent lakes and ponds.

Mating Season Movement: During the spring and early summer mating season, gators travel extensively across land and between ponds to find mates, making them more transient and less likely to stay in one specific retention pond.

Overland Travel: Alligators are highly mobile and easily travel across land, golf courses, and neighborhoods, occasionally winding up in unexpected puddles, yards, or swimming pools.

Thermoregulation: In hot, sunny weather, they often retreat to the bottom of the water or seek shade along the marshy, overgrown edges of larger bodies of water, making them harder to spot.

I think that ALL large gators should be REMOVED. People think they are cute and feed them. Then they wonder why they get big and eat their small dogs or even small grandchildren. Florida still has plenty of wilderness areas where people can see alligators if than makes them happy. If we are talking about a golf course - that is for people, not for gators.
