In the past few years we have bought several electronics items, including two large screen tvs, from www.shopnbc.com - or from shopnbc's television shopping show. We found the prices very good compared to store prices for the same items, good extended warranty prices, delivery to our door, and very good customer service. We were able to do the easy setup of the tvs ourselves, but I think that you can add a charge to have the setup included with delivery (or, of course, pay someone locally to do that; but it was not hard to do). We have been very satisfied with the convenience of being able to order it from home and have it delivered within a few days. Also, they have on all of the items we have bought have given us the option of interest-free payments; even though we didn't do that, it was a nice option to have. All in all it has been a good experience.

Default Shop Around!

You never know when you'll find a great deal on your favorite model so shopping around is the best way to find what you want. When I bought my 42" Philips, I started online (and yes, CNET is great!), and then started cruising the local stores. Circuit City was selling out at the time but I couldn't find what I wanted there; being in the home of Best Buy, I had to give them a try...still not quite what I wanted. I moved on to Walmart and found exactly what I wanted for the right price but out of curiosity, I checked Target and they had the exact same TV at the same exact price as Walmart. The only difference was that the TV at Target came with a stand and the TV at Walmart did not. I've had nothing but good luck with it ever since and saved a bunch of money.

I think Best Buy is the place to go. The best warranty and the best people.

Piashank, we bought our LG flat screen TV at Best Buy on Rt.441. They had a very good price on the one with the features we wanted.

Another vote for Walmart. That's where I purchased my 47" LG LED/LCD HDTV a year or two ago. It's a fantastic television.

Andwhat happens if youwant to return it?

I bought my last big TV at Circuit City in TV. They are gone now so I cannot really recommend anyone.

I just wanted to voice my angst about buying big TV purchases over the Internet.
Recently, I had to do 2 returns on items bought on Amazon.com.

The first was an Ooma box that I was having trouble booting up. I called Ooma first to see if they could help me but they determined that the box was faulty. Ooma sent a replacement (even though I didn't buy directly from them) and included a pre-paid return label for the old box.

The second was a sewing machine that just didn't seem to work right after about 3 weeks. I went back to Amazon.com, clicked returns, answered a couple of questions and was able to print out a pre-paid return label. My credit card was credited back in in full in about a week.

Do your research on line or using a consumer magazine or go see the item first in the store, pick a reputable on line merchant and you can safely save some money. By the way, asking a salesperson in the store is usually the worst source of product information.

This is a little off the subject but if you are in the market for HDMI cables for your TV's the best place to buy them is Monoprice.com. I have been doing business with these people for a number of years and they have the best prices you can find.
