Default Canadian buyers

My Wife and I have Canadian relatives that would like to buy down here. They keep hearing different things about why tax wise it might not be a good thing.

If you are a Canadian or a friend of a Canadian that would be willing to talk to us about the ins and outs of buying here in Villages we would appreciate a call.

If your willing to talk with us we can exchange emails with phone numbers.

Thanks in advance

See if you can find "Barefoot" on this site and pm her, she is a Canadian and would be able to answer all your questions.

The Villages is full of Canadians every winter, so it can't be too difficult for them to buy here.

We purchased a home in The Villages in 2007. It's the best decision we ever made. We belong to a Canadian club called "Loonies and Toonies" with over 450 members. There are thousands of Canadians who own property in TV, from all provinces.

The one big negative for us is that the US government doesn't issue Retiree Visas. We are considered Resident Aliens and are only allowed to spend 182 days in the US in a calendar year. Thus we have to maintain two residences, one in Canada and one in Florida. We'd love to stay longer in The Villages if only the US Government Immigration Department would allow us!

Please PM me, it would be a pleasure to speak with you.

There are a lot of subtle complexities in purchasing property in another country so it is best to get advice from professionals. The Snowbird book authored by Transition Financials is an excellent place to get an authoritative view of the issues: Transition Financial.

Thousands of Canadians have purchased property in Florida so that should give your friends confidence. But reading the book will help them avoid any pitfalls.

regards... Barry
