Her and her family, are wonderful people. She has not been on this site, as there are some mean sprited people, who have hurt her feelings, and she needs to take a break.
The mean people need to consider "thy own ways", less we may lose someone who has a lot of knowledge to impart, Gracie takes some things too much to heart, and mean people, stink!!!!! That is why several of us "old timers" don't post as often, as they are too many people who put people down, instead of building them up. Wise up, or it will be your loss!!!! "let us not grow weary while doing good, as we reap in due season, if we do not lose heart". Galatians 5:13.

I've noticed how people say, "I'm done, good bye." or their feelings get hurt, or they post that they are signing off.............Does it really get that nasty and personal on a "blog website"???
I believe people are good. People are different with different views and different communication styles. It's just words. Peace to all. |

He's too busy over on the other forum being distasteful, along with a few others. They should all stay there with their nastiness. They will not be missed, but Graciegirl is.

Dewilson, yes, it has been personal and mean at times on the blog. It is one thing to disagree with a view and another thing to attack a person and or their family....luckily Moderator has addressed this.
BTW if you see that a post attacks a person there is an icon in a red triangle at the topright of a post that you can hit and it will notify Moderator.

I did not know Henry smoked. I had a German professor-- Eugene K. Grotegut-- who used to carry a pipe in class. University Digital Conservancy, University of Nevada, Reno **·** Search Results
It made him seem more academic and the smell was actually appealing. I have never really had that much of a problem with smokers but second hand smoke and the smell on clothes does bother me. I do not know what kind of affect E-cigarettes actually have from second hand smoke. I do miss Graciegirl's comments. I suppose she would have some comment about smoking in the girl's bathroom. How does that song go? http://youtu.be/PYhGi65Lijg |

I would have never guessed just how deeply I could get hurt until it happened to me. It was some time ago and it was bad enough that I took me more than a month before I could start to make any posts again. The good news is that most people are good like you describe, and some of the worst people I've had the displeasure to run into, are either long time dormant or totally gone today, which fortunately seems to happen frequently with nasty people. As for Gracie, I know she has been hurt even more than I have, (and that's saying something) but I'm not going discuss what I've been privy to know and have seen. Not my place to do so! Anyway, I'm sure she'll be back. She cares about people too much not to!

I remember around 2003(?) trying to help a soldier on a base near the Kentucky-Tennessee border get mental health counseling for his deeply depressed girlfriend who had witnessed her mother's murder years before. This beautiful African-American woman according to the soldier was bi-polar. The base people had not helped her all that much and the soldier wanted leads to how he could get treatment for her. I was researching this and looking at NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) contacts in that area of the country for this soldier and his girlfriend. I had a particularly nasty troll on Findlaw's message boards for four years or more. This man started attacking me rigorously with all kinds of asides while I was posting for this soldier. He got really frustrated with our back-and-forth but eventually came back unfortunately to say that his girlfriend had slammed her car into on-going traffic near the military base. She killed herself and if I remember correctly some other people in the other on-coming car. So, I do think what you write on message boards can have an effect in real life. This troll I had just continued to be allowed to make personal attack after personal attack on me until 2006 or so when I had had enough and just abandoned Findlaw's message boards. [QUOTE=skyguy79;875721]You have no idea just how nasty and personal a person can get. I'm not going to go into detail or name names, but I will say it was politically motivated, before the political forum closed but it didn't happen on that forum.

I myself have backed off from TOTV, tired of all the nit picking and complaining. I know many other members who feel the same way. This is such a great tool but a certain few ruin it for the others. Not sure how long Gracie's sabbatical will last but she loves people too much not to return.

For those living in a cave for the last ten years, Gracie is a legend and the poster child for The Villages. Although Gracie is no longer a child she has the energy of one. If she were President of the country the world would be a better place. She 's got my vote. Wait a minute. Am I getting too political here?

Gracie hasn't left us. She's just taking care of some family business and is busy right now. I'm sure she'll be posting in a week or two.

I have been the Moderator on two boards where the participants are active and retired law enforcement personnel.
On one, every individual is registered by his true name and everyone is/was connected with the same agency. On the other, posting can be done by both registered and unregistered people and there is no way to assure that the poster is even affiliated with law enforcement. (There is a way to register with either a real or screen name and be certified as law enforcement affiliated, but in that registration the board operator knows the identity of the registrant.) Predictably, on the board where no one can be anonymous the postings are quite civil, and often even congenial when you are responding to someone who you have worked with over the years. Equally predictably, on the board where people can be anonymous the exchanges can become quite nasty. Also, the allegations against third parties, such as discussions of which active duty supervisor was sleeping with which active duty subordinate, got to the point of being legally actionable. We dealt with this by tightening the rules on personal invective, but there is frequently still an undercurrent of animosity that is not the case where every person is registered. I find it incredible that some people are incapable of addressing the issue and instead feel they must insult the poster. My rule of thumb is that whenever someone resorts to name calling they have lost the argument.
