I don't see anything nice in Wildwood. Everything looks run down. Who is getting the money and when are the plans starting for redevelopment?

Folks could always move north a ways and not be in Wildwood...no city tax...no bonds for the most part and def no bonds north of 466...closer to shopping, town squares, medical, and many more choices of those...just sayin'

No thanks to moving north. I am in unincorporated Wildwood and I see no difference in services so don't understand the difference and what you are paying for. Seems to be a pretty run down town and the development plan, which I have only read about in the paper, will take MONEY.

Haven't seen this gripe before. It might become the latest ad nauseum thread like dogs pooping on neighbors' lawns, crowded squares, greedy Morris kids, etc.

Wildwood is a typical Florida town. And actually better than many. I am sure the folks who live there are proud of it. It has some good restaurants & small shops.

All of our community leaders whose members live under the wildwood jurisdiction should get together as a political voting block and tell us residents what issues we should vote up or down as a group. This way we would ensure that wildwood treats us fairly.

They were smart enough to annex the land that the Villages was going to eventually expand into. If you go to the web: Wildwood-Fl.Gov, and look at the Wildwood Comprehensive Plan 2050, Policy 1.5.5, you will see that all of land where the Age Restricted Development (ARD) referred to as The Villages of Southern Oaks, is inside the Wildwood city limits.
This is most of the developable land : South of SR44, East of 301, on both side of the Florida Turnpike, East to the Lake County line. Will eventually include 60,449 dwelling units. |

You challenge the “wisdom” of the management of The Villages? My goodness - you must be a new resident.

Good question. I have a feeling we won't recognize downtown Wildwood in a few years.

Wildwood was an important railroad town, and when that ended there was the usual deterioration with no plan. Until now. The Villages is a godsend, and hopefully the revitalization will soon occur. It is a blighted eyesore.

One correction...Wildwood did not decided to annex these areas. The developer petitioned Wildwood to have these lands annexed by the city.

You can feel satisfied that your tax dollars are helping to fund the new sports fields and new government buildings in Fruitland Park.
