you may have to use a bow and arrow, I don't think you can leaglly use a gun in a populated area. A dog maybe a better answer, Alapaha blue blood Bulldogs wee bread to hunt wild boar. the Alapaha river is near the FL Ga line.

The shooting of ANYTHING on your lot in The Villages will certainly get you some one-on-one time with the Sumter County Sheriff(if you are in Sumter County, which is where the pigs are). Discharging a firearm in a populated community is against the law.
Hire the trapper. Split the cost between the affected homeowners. Have you contacted The Villages Administration about this problem or just posting on TOTV? |

Quoted From The Herald Tribune: The only rules in Florida to discharging firearms on residential property are that you cant fire over a right-of-way of any paved public road, highway or street, you cant fire over any occupied dwelling and you cant fire recklessly or negligently. Because violation of the statute is only a first-degree misdemeanor, Ramsay said an officer would have to personally witness the recklessness or negligence to make an arrest at the scene. (The offense is punishable by a maximum fine of $1,000 and maximum jail time of a year.) Dirtbanker is quite correct. One can shoot (must be in accordance with the applicable state law) in his or her yard per the law he sites. Here is a small piece of a long article:
But in 2011, backed by the National Rifle Association, the Republican-led state Legislature put more teeth into the state law, creating penalties for local lawmakers who violate it. Gov. Rick Scott signed the law that now makes anyone who creates or upholds local gun ordinances subject to fines of up to $5,000. They also can be removed from office and forced to pay their own legal bills if sued over local gun ordinances. Once the 2011 law took effect, Florida Carry, a nonprofit, gun-rights organization, began systematically going after any municipality that had not already put a bullet into its local gun ordinances. Palm Beach County sued the state to keep its gun laws, but the courts upheld the Legislatures authority.

In our previous community in GA, we had some feral pig issues - a fair amount of damage to landscaping. The HOA hired someone to trap them. I am not sure if the trapping was successful or they moved on but the problem did go away. No guns were fired as that was illegal in our area.

With a two foot offset, no less. The house behind us is about 20 feet away.

Specifically, Fla. statute, Sec. 790.15, reads as follows re: using firearms: "790.15 Discharging firearm in public or on residential property. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) or subsection (3), any person who knowingly discharges a firearm in any public place or on the right-of-way of any paved public road, highway, or street, who knowingly discharges any firearm over the right-of-way of any paved public road, highway, or street or over any occupied premises, or who recklessly or negligently discharges a firearm outdoors on any property used primarily as the site of a dwelling as defined in s. 776.013 or zoned exclusively for residential use commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083." I believe it is the bolded passage that could generate a discussion with local LE officials, and quite possible a misdemeanor summons. However, that phrase does leave quite a bit to interpretation as well. So long as I plug the varmint while it's in my yard, and don't shoot over my neighbor's house (as in "when pigs fly" lol), I may be within the law. Or not....certainly not on my list of things to try and test!! ![]() |

I asked the sheriff, he said it was legal in FL, following the above laws.
Not that I would advise it, or attempt it myself....... |

Did you also ask him if he agreed with the law?
