I've read where that's being legally blocked in every way possible.
Please post specific examples (not links) of a new tax being added.

Won’t see the new taxes even proposed for another nine months or so when the budget build begins

2000 or more will buy a newly constructed home. In addition, 2000 or more will purchase a resale. New business will open, and the Developer will announce yet another big project. Outside of the Villages, there will be new development. All of the above will not be protected by Amendment 3. They will pay higher taxes. This will occur while you are waiting 9 months for the new budget. The tax collected WILL RISE. It will not diminish.

Yes, I know of two registered voters living under our roof who will vote YES to Amendment 3. Wildwood’s waste needs to stop!

A thirteen-cent-per-thousand-dollars increase, and everyone's getting upset. You pay more than that in increased gas costs every week. You pay more than that in the inflated grocery bills every week. I see no posts demanding that Publix DO something about THAT, or that the Shell station immediately lower their prices at the pump.

Wildwood used to be considered the Crossroads of Florida, once upon a time. Now, thanks to development and overdevelopment and the advent of technology and automobile travel, it's just a rinky-dink nowhere nothingburger. But the people who've been living in Wildwood for the past 20, 30, 50 years or more, want to see Wildwood return to some semblance of a cultural and social community. An actual town.

Villagers are the newcomers. But they knew when they moved to the Wildwood area that they were moving to a town that imposes its own property taxes. They knew that Wildwood had nothing special to mark it. They COULD have looked up the town's rather rich history, and discovered that Wildwood WAS a pretty important place in the state, and had the potential to be one again.

But people moving to The Villages don't really care about the community outside The Villages. UNTIL that community says "we're building some new stuff and renovating some other stuff and we're all coming together to pay for it."

Must really be horrible to live in a community where the community is doing things, and you've chosen to leave yourself out of it until the bill comes due.

We see things differently. We do math differently. We even read sentences differently. We are not going to agree on this.

I continue to be confident in my analysis while you continue to believe you rose colored glasses. We will se what happens in 2028.

In the meantime, there is no point in continuing this back and forth.

The proposed amendment change, if passed, will require all local governments in Florida to comply. Not just Wildwood! It seems those opposed believe there will be major cuts. This is understandable. There are many who do not like change.

Those who will be voting yes see continued growth in Florida. Tax collected will continue to rise not diminish. For this reason, those for do not anticipate major cuts. Instead, they see local governments with fat wallets spending on the unecessary. Without the amendment change, their wallets will get larger and larger, year after year. More money to be spent means larger government. Those for the proposed change want to keep local governments small. Larger government requires more and more tax revenue to maintain. Taxes will become too high. We will see many leaving the state of Florida, increased homeless population, and more crime. A situation that is currently a huge problem in other states.

Please read Bill's post (quoted above for your convenience) and apply it as my response. Your opinion about actual facts is noted.

The rate is the same as last year. Property tax rate of $2.83 per $1,000 assessed valuation. My taxes are much lower here than where I used to live in Florida. They where much higher there. So I am very pleased. The parking garage was the first step in fixing up the downtown area. There is a large new restaurant opening up soon. "The Yardery Wildwood is opening an indoor-outdoor restaurant, bar, and entertainment destination at 101 S Main St Unit 2, Wildwood, FL 34785 in downtown Wildwood." This will be an improvement for the downtown area. If you don't like the tax rate here, you can move away.

I am glad that you are happy with the proposed tax on your property. If Amendment 3 passes in November, it will be lower. In future years, the tax will remain low.

Let’s do the math on that tax amount for you. Living in Wildwood (an additional tax after Sumter County Taxes You) you purchase a home with a 500 k dollar value. So what will be added to your taxes for relocating into the annexed portion by the municipality? Well a 500 k home is surcharged 500 x $2.83. In other words, cough up an additional $ 1,415.00 every year for the rest of your life.

Yep. And you chose to move to Wildwood knowing that Wildwood property taxes apply. What is there to complain about?

Default Continuous Additions for more revenue

Wildwood’s continuous additions of property over the past ten or 15 years for revenue is expected. What concerns most is the reckless spending and actual price tags incurred. Did you know Wildwood collects 22.4% of a resident’s total tax bill? The remaining 77.6% is split between the county and the school tax system.

It will be nice to see half of that wiped out (except for schools) when Amendment 3 passes and brings the Homestead exemption back to what it was historically intended to be at.

Don Wiley is not a Wildwood commissioner. No chance of voting him out. Don is one of five Sumter County Commissioners.
