You don't buy through the stock market. Most are limited partnerships. You can certainly invest, if you are a qualified investor and you are willing to accept the tax hassle.

I think poster when he said "buy the stock" he really meant just invest in private equity.

Never should this City fold to a Private Equity conversion. There have been more failures in this type of transaction than one can imagine. PE makes exaggerated promises they can never fulfill and will cut services, lay off employees and suck it’s cash flow dry. They will borrow the money at a higher interest rate , go deep in depth and expect the resistance to pick up the tab. It will not work out well. They will promise the sellers a big return in 4-5 years in preparation for the next PE transaction. It will go on-and- on!

This is a really big time bad idea!
