Default Yard Sale Permits

Our neighbor told us yesterday that we need a permit to have a yard sale. Being new to TV, I have no idea if this is true, and if it is where to go to get a permit. Can anyone out there help?

Here's the info on having a garage sale as shown on www.districtgov.org

http://www.districtgov.org/departmen...ge%20Sales.pdf

You call it a yard sale. See point #2. You're supposed to keep everything in the garage.

Not true. But there are rules.
1. No signs. Balloons on lamposts are allowed.
2. EVERYTHING in garage. Nothing on lawn or carport.
3. Any damage done by extra traffic is responsibility of homeowner.
4. Sale for single homeowner only unless fundraiser for non-profit. If fundraiser all must be in that one garage.
5. No more than 1 in a 12-month period.
6. Advise Community Watch in advance so they can prepare for added traffic. 753-0550.

There, that's about it.

Thanks for those directing me to the District website. I don't know why I never thought of that. I didn't think my neighbor could possibly be correct about the need for a permit.

I call them yard sales because we never had a garage in our early years. I guess the name "yard sale' comes to mind when I think of having a sale.

We, like most, brought too much stuff with us when we moved here. We thought we were being smart when we donated truckloads of stuff to our local battered woman's shelter thrift store. It turns out we needed to make 2 or 3 more trips to the thrift store to pare down so we could fit everything into our Villages house.

Anyone out there need a bunch of stuff?

I have this terrible feeling in my stomach that once we get moved, there is not going to be neeeaaaaarrrrrllllllyyyyy enough room and we will have to have a yard/garage sale too.

I think I read somewhere that they want you to wash it in the grass so the water won't wind up in the retention ponds and will help to water your yard at the same time. I could be wrong and I might have dreamed it.

you can usually get a bit more selling on totv forsale and not blow a day haggling over nickels and dimes

list a few things and see how it goes

I may try that with some of the larger items. We have so many small things, like hats and similar items, that a garage sale is probably the only way to get rid of them. Anything we can't sell we will donate to the Hospice thrift store in Lady Lake.

Thanks for the suggestion, L&L

You will do better listing your stuff on this sites thread, ocala4sale and Craig's list. You can sell furniture and stuff for reasonable money not just pennies on the dollar

Ocala4 sale is one of TOTV advertisers.
