Lately this has been a pet peeve of mine. I think the new signs on the roundabouts were a good idea. When I am going 3/4 of the way around the roundabout I get in the inside lane even if no other cars are following. However many people who go around 3/4 of the way still stay in the outside lane entering the roundabout. I guess they have difficulty interpreting the roundabout signs. However I also noticed that the arrows painted on the street show a staight ahead arrow after the 2nd exit. So if a person was following the painted arrows then it would be OK to exit at the 3rd exit.

The instructions need to be posted in the newspaper for several days in a row or several days a month, preferably on the front page. I think the design that is on the signs should be painted on the roads approaching the round abouts also, in their respective lanes.

However, I think some of the problem is people who think they KNOW how to use the roundabout and never look at the signs. Nor would they look at the road markings. |

I agree Mike, but eventually some of the ones that think they KNOW might realize that they don't really KNOW.

Yeah I actually encountered two the other day. In the right hand lane entered from the bottom and the sign clearly shows this lane goes from the bottom to the top of the circle....never the less...they proceeded 3/4 around the circle from that lane. If I had been in the other lane there would have been an accident. Those signs are not confusing....just wish folks were read them and not just drive how ever they want

I had a "floor shoppe" HHR make a left turn from the right hand lane in front of me last week. I was not expecting that. They have been around for a while and you would think they would know better.

This is a toughie. Good suggestions, recent new signage is great, but one ingredient problem I'm not sure can be eliminated is that we have a high number of residents (full and parttime) that have the attitude that they are beyond the law, or logic, and regardless of the rules of the road are going to do exactly what they darn well please, period. The rest of us owe them! I was driving north on Buena Vista last night, already well into the round-a-bout at Old Mill when a car approached from LSL direction and proceeded to nearly wipe me out. I generally cut instances like that some slack, thinking maybe they are visitors or they can't sort out that logic would have you yield to the car in the circle. My view is that you need to keep an eye out for the OTHER driver, your careful driving will work out. This driver received no slack, but a quick toot of my horn, which I generally withold, but it was obvious she thought she was the queen of the day and would do just what she wanted to do. I followd her up BV and she continued her eratic driving habits, turned left on 466 and I pulled in to my Dr office at Laural Manor, still shaking my head. This is but an example that regardless of how many times you put stories and diagrams in the Sun and how many messages we generate here in TOTV you can't fix stupid, and that is what we deal with. Maybe just another thing to look forward to in our next life - gold round a-bouts as well as streets.............

Since arriving here in Florida, I have learned a few things about driving.
1. Turn signals are an OPTION on car bought in Florida. 2. Red lights and stop signs are also an OPTION that you can obey or not, depends on how your day is going. 3. Speed limits only apply to the other drivers. 4. If you are a Villagers you always have the right away, even in your cart, even though your cart only weights 400 pounds you are willing to take on a 4000 pound car. 5. Always be in a hurry even though you have no place to be at a certain time. Guess that about sums it up for the vast majority of drivers in The Villages and the surrounds areas in Florida. Remember, Drive Defensively and you just might make it back home alive to enjoy the rest of the day.

Them stupid signs are wrong anyhow! You enter on left going to the 3rd exit from the inside lane, you will cut right in front of someone that enters at your 2nd exit, and they are in the right lane going to their 2nd exit.
Right lane should be for people exiting the first exit only! |

One of the worse circles for rules violations has to be the circle at Stillwater and Morse. Several months back I saw a study done by a resident regarding that circle. Over 50% of the vehicles heading east on Stillwater were in the right (outside) lane of the circle and went 3/4 around the circle to head north on Morse. They wanted to make sure they were in the right hand lane on Morse so they could be in the bypass lane at the Sumter Landing circle.
