It is my opinion (my opinion) that any notion that The Villages, or anywhere else, is too safe for an alarm system is not accurate.

There have been break-ins in The Villages. Not many, but there have been burglaries. I'll wager that the number ranks in the dozens, rather than "few." We, and several of our friends, have alarms that were installed professionally by ADT. They do not necessarily require monitoring, but the installation price is higher then.

Since The Villages is not a gated community, and it is easily accessible by anybody from the surrounding area, I would not be lulled into thinking that we are protected by an invisible shield. Don't think that outsiders are not aware that residents are thought to be "well healed." Many, in fact, are.

In a lot of Villages, the homes are close together. Neighbours do a good job of watching out for each other. Nevertheless, as Talk Host said, there have been burlaries, even while the home owners are in the adjoining room.

If you back on a Golf Course or Rec Centre or Preserve, I think the security aspect would be even more important. We back on a Golf Course and Lolli Pop, our Security System, keeps us notified if anyone suspicious wanders off the golf course. Unfortunately, to her, this includes golfers looking for lost balls. And there are lots of those!
