Has anyone recently, say in the last three months, traded in their new appliance package for a different type? We would like to swap black for stainless and side by side for french door. Do they give you a credit and let you pick out the replacement or how does it work? Thanks for all responses.

Assuming the appliances are already ordered for the build or are in place the builder will not do any exchanges (we tried to get a french door instead of the side-by-side). This was in July. If you are doing a custom build you order your appliances at the design meeting.

We were told to contact the appliance company and see if they would do a swap. We didn't bother.

We had baileys supply our appliances and after closing they credited us for our old and allowed us to purchase new. They are wonderful and there pricing was cheaper than lowes. No tax and delivery charge.
Great company.

We also had Baileys. Our home came with black appliances and we wanted to switch to stainless. There was a fee for this ,however, it was not overwhelming. Their installers were very professional.

There are at least two contractors who install the appliances and it depends on which one installed yours. We got that name from our sales rep, but the Warrantee Dept can probably get it for you. DelAire installed ours and will not change them out. They were kind enough to give us discounted prices for replacements and installation, but we would have to sell the builder supplied appliances on our own. With all the other things on our list, (not to mention all the boxes in the garage!), we decided to wait on that upgrade. For what its worth, recent ads at Lowes and elsewhere have been comparable to the prices DelAire gave me, so I doubt we'll call them again when we're ready.

We tried to switch out a new side by side SS Ref for one with a freezer on the bottom. We told several time the new house sale depended on it and the villages wouldn't budge. We gave in since the Ref wasn't really that bad. Perhaps I'll try to find out who the appliance dealer is that installed it and see if we can make a deal.

Just found out from the realtor DelAir installed ours. I guess I am screwed. This we got it and you want it attitude is really getting on my nerves. With all the money these people are raking in you would think they would be just a little flexible. I mean would it really hurt to allow trade in of brand new appliances for a credit? Or god forbid, installing the appliances after you sign the contract and allowing you to pick them out? For god's sake they don't allow you to pick out anything else in the house. Thanks for allowing me to rant.

I was a bit confused while reading this Thread (what's new...) - then realized the referenced appliance swap is for purchased Spec homes.

We are fortunate to be the last ones contracting for a custom design home - 1.5 hours before the decision for Spec-only was made a couple months back. We were just very lucky. Not to sprinkle salt in the wound for those muddled in the no-appliance-swap matter - but we were informed that at our upcoming Design meeting, a credit for the Builder appliance package is an option unless a built-in oven is in play. Our Design is scheduled for Nov 11, and plan to purchase an appliance package from a store, either Samsung or LG.
Happy this won't be an issue for us, but understandably a bummer for Spec owners.

We put a deposit down on a new home in Collier in September. The house we chose had a SS side by side refrigerator and I wanted a French door. We were told by our realtor that we would be able to exchange it with Del Air after we closed. We were told they would give us a credit on that one and we would just pay the difference for the French door. So....we were under that assumption until the walk thru on closing day (Oct. 18th) when we informed that that policy had been cancelled 6 months ago and that we were not going to be able to exchange it. Don't you think he could've told us that before the walk thru??? I called Del Air myself to see if there was anything they could do and they said the Villages was not allowing them to do that anymore and had stopped that policy 6 mths. prior. Every appliance is linked somehow to that particular house and can not be exchanged. There is a house for sale right next door to us that has a French door, by the way. The realtor said 'he would put it out there' that he had a customer wanting to sell a 'brand new' refrigerator at a discounted price. Sure enough, another realtor came by and bought it for $344.00 less than what the credit would've been. We ordered a French door from Best Buy for $200.00 less than what Del Air would sell the same refrigerator for at builder prices. Seems a little like they have a racket going on. We were very disappointed in the way this was handled by the realtor and the sales dept.

bxmt54, I'm confused by the statement, "The Villages was not allowing them (DelAir) to do that anymore." If a homeowner has already closed on the property, The Villages would not be involved in nor have anything to say about switching out appliances. It makes more sense that DelAir just didn't want to do appliance swapping anymore. It would have been nice if they had alerted the sales agents to that fact, however.

Probably has to do with the additional year of warranty on villages appliances.
