Who gets more value/money's worth playing a championship course?
Player A who finishes with a 5 over par in 4 hours, Player B who finishes with 20 over par in 5 hours. . . Seems like player B gets the most practice time on the course. . and dollars per shot is much lower and therefore that's why i play the blacks golfing finance guy ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Golf digest had a great article about selecting the proper tee box to help obtain the most enjoyment for your ability. The tee selection rule at the time was based on how far you hit your driver, the problem with that (according to the article) was a lot of people are not sure how far they hit their driver and most think they hit it farther than they actually do. The articles formula was to use your 5 iron(hybrid) distance and multiply by 36, the rational on the distance of that club is most people have a much better idea how far they hit it, since they are usually firing at determined target. Example I hit my 5 iron 170 Yards x 36=6120 yards. I try to stay between 6000 and 6300, and am able to maintain a 6 Hcp, consistently. I checked with a few retired club pros I played with in the Villages, and they all agreed it was a very good formula to use for tee selection. Not saying it works for everyone but I have found more than not, with people I have played with over the years, it works out well. Just food for thought

However, seeing spinach on the greens and maybe thinking it is discarded chewing tobacco, wouldn't exactly thrill me. LOL

How would you like if I told you that I play Palmer Legends from the Black Tees on the Orange Blossom golf course.
Just to let you know, My GPS distance readings are in Miles, not Yards. ![]() |

I would like to see the difference in average drive distance in the Villages between January and July. During the winter when the fairways are bone dry, have very little grass and the rough is dormant and very short, a low draw off the T will run out forever. In the middle of the summer rain season, between the wet ground and the nasty Bermuda rough, most drives stay just about where they land. I would guess that my average driving distance is about 35 yards longer during the winter. And in the winter the golfer never has to hack their ball out of a buried lie in the rough just to get back onto the fairway. My average score is probably 5 - 8 strokes lower per round in the winter.
