Default China, Silverware etc.

During our LSV we visited a range of homes at different price points. We noticed that they were all much more casually decorated then our home in the East. In addition, they were on the whole much smaller with less space for "stuff".

I did not notice extras like formal china etc. in the homes I visited. I am curious if you have silver flatware, formal china etc. in your home in the Villages? Or if you had that at one time did you sell it prior to moving?

I can't believe that a realtor would encourage a possible buyer to go through someones cabinets to see if they have brought formal china with them to The Villages. I know that if I knew that happened at my home for sale, i would report the realtor.

Perhaps the prospective buyer was talking about the lack of china cabinets which normally store fine china, silver and crystal. I think rushing to condemn the realtor might be a stretch.

We got rid of our silver a couple of moves ago along with china and other things that mostly took up lots of space without much use. I guess our style (especially since we retired) is much more relaxed.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

I still have my mother's china. However, have only used it twice since moving here. Debating whether to get rid of it but I have so little of my parents' things, I'll probably keep it boxed up and just take it out to clean occasionally.

No question that entertaining is much more casual here with lots of pot lucks.

BTW -- When purchasing a pre-owned home, I always open cabinets. Not to see what's in them but to see how things are stored so I have an idea of where to put things when I move in.

I still have my china and silverware but don't expect that I'll ever use it again and wish had a good home for it. I'm glad to have my china cabinet for additional storage. I've used my dining room table more since moving here for entertaining and hosting my bunco and samba groups than I've used it in years.

You are truly jumping to conclusions here. I did not say we were going thru cupboards.

What I said was I noted a lot less formal "stuff" including formal dining room furniture. As Peachie said, in the houses we toured we did not see china cabinets stocked with china etc. which you will often see if you were looking at homes in the same price point where I live.

So that is why I am curious if people who own silver, china etc. took it with them to the Villages. It will help me in the decision making process on what to bring.
