Default First Night in New Home Question

My husband John and I will be closing on our new home in Fernandina on January 4. We will be maintaining our present residence for two more years until John retires so we will not be moving any furniture from our present home.

We will need to purchase a bed so that we will be able to start to spend time in our new home. My question is... Has anyone had arrange for a bed to be delivered on the day of your closing? How far in advance did you have to order the bed and where did you purchase your bed?

The thought of a blow-up mattress does not thrill us, nor does the thought of driving to our closing with a mattress on the top of our car!

We would really like to spend our first night in our home rather than a hotel. Thanks in advance for your replies. We are so excited that we are only 30 days away from owning our Fernandina home.

Why dont you buy one of those queen size blow up beds that automatically inflate. They are comfortable and when you get your furniture delivered, the blow up bed can be stored and used for visitors.

I agree. You can get blow up beds that are nearly as high as a regular bed and they are indeed very comfortable. My guests tell me that they are just as happy sleeping on them as a regular bed. That would take the pressure off of you for trying to coordinate a delivery on the same day you close.

If you buy the bed from Southern Lifestyles they will set it up for you. Arrange for it ahead of time.

We bought a blow up bed from Frontgate. It is great to have for guests and doesn't take up bed room at other times.

Southern Lifestyles furniture at Lake Sumter Landing used to set up all your furniture, including beds, so your new house would be ready to live in when you arrived. I don't know if they still do this, but it might be worth a phonecall to find out.

Welcome almost. We ordered from Southern Lifestyles and had it delivered and set up the day of closing. Showcase Direct will also do the same thing.

We close on Jan 4th in Fernandina also! Our house is on Birdsong Place. We also have 2 years before retirement. When I was down in Oct for our Design meeting we ordered some furniture at Showcase Direct in Spanish Springs. They will deliver furniture before you close (they have builders keys). They do not charge for delivery and Villagers get 5% off. We ordered a bedroom set from them as well as a mattress. Badcock furniture also has a very quick turnaround. I have phone #s for both if you want to PM me. What time do you close? We haven't gotten a time yet.

We bought our bed from Showcase Direct and they have discounted items very often. They delivered it on the day promised. Southern Lifestyle is also very good. We bought our guest room beds from Southern Lifestyle and they also delivered on the day promised. We also did not want to stay at a hotel so we did what you are planning to do. Wish you best.

We are looking into doing the same thing as we close 1/8/13 on our new home in Gilchrest and we are in the same situation-won't be permanent residents for awhile but need to have furniture in the house for insurance purposes and plus we would like to stay in it when we're there. We're looking at all our options also and don't just want to put a bunch of "hodge-podge" furniture in as will be bring some from the North.

we stayed in one of the villages motels for a few days before our closing - shopped for all of our furniture during that time [had done a LOT of on-line window shopping before the closing using many recommendations from totv posters] - kent furniture up 441/27 in belleview delivered our bed within on the day we closed [within 24 hrs of it being ordered] Mattresses

Thanks to all of you who were so gracious to reply to my request for information.

So many good suggestions! I was stumped, but now I have all these choices.

We do have to wait two years before we live in The Villages permanently, but we will be able to spend some time there each month. We hope we get to meet each of you as we find our way around the community.
