This is part three and hopefully the last of my Comcast Saga. My appointment with Comcast was from 9 to 12 AM. At 8:40 the Comcast technician called and said that he was on his way. He arrived at 8:59. It took him about an hour and a half to set up five televisions and the Internet on my computer. The technician was efficient and knowledgeable. So far everything is looking good. I only have one minor concern. The DVR box is louder than the one I had with Cox. You can hear the disk drive inside. I don't know if this is normal with this model. Maybe someone else out there knows. I'm going to let it be for right now and see what happens.

So as you can see with me, I am one of the lucky ones. I made the appointment with Comcast well in advance and everything went like clockwork. They did what they said they would do when they said they would do it. Here's hoping my luck continues.

They make an audible hum, which surprised me when I first got DVR. From my research this is normal. I get a new box every fall when I arrive at TV and they have all had a hum.

One of mine began making a clicking sound when accessing the drive. This is not normal and I returned that one.

I too have a Comcast DVR here in Seattle. When they hooked it up the one they put on had a hum and the internet wouldn't work either. The guy said "crap not again" and said he would have to come back. I asked what was wrong and he said the line coming into my house must have a break in the shielding as he stared at some meter thing. Not having a clue what he ment I just said OH. He called and set up an appointment for a different team to come and replace the line from the house to the street (three days) When he came back the internet worked but we still had a little hum. He went off and came back with a new DVR still in the shrink wrap and no hum. So all in all an ok expierience except he ran lines up and down and all around instead of discreetly under the eve which I didn't notice before he left or I would have made him redo them instead I pulled out all the clips and tucked them out of site myself. I hope to get a good installer next time but it is a crapshoot.

I solved the hum problem with the DVR. It was my fault. I had it and a DVD recorder both crammed into a small space and it was not getting enough air. The sound that I was hearing was the fan trying to kool the thing off. It was like it was gasping for breath. Once I took it out so that it could breathe it sounds normal.

I had Comcast installed at my mother's house in TV and Comcast came and installed it at the day and time they said but they had no HD boxes so we had a 50 something inch TV but no HD. The installer said he would be back in a few days to replace the box and he never came back. After a couple of calls to Comcast they brought an HD box and everything is peachy now. Now do I dare call up to have internet installed? hmmm.

We do have Comcast, but only as a provider. We use (I'm sorry, but my wife likes it) AOL for our e-mail accounts and they work anywhere, even if we're traveling and have to use dial up.

I too prefer AOL as it works anywhere you can get online. We chose the Comcast bundle which seems to work fine, however Comcast is our provider and AOL, which is free, is our ubiquitous browser.
