I don't think I understood this correctly. I have seen pictures of walls painted but I have always thought they were the interior wall of the back privacy wall.

We are free to do as we please on any of the interior walls. If it is in our yard it is ours. What our neighbors do on their side is considered their property. That is the appeal of a villa.

CYV have zero-clearance lot-lines. The wall of the neighbor, I would think, is their property and not yours. As others instructed look at your deed then if still confused talk to the folks that give permission to alter or improve the outside areas of our homes. They should be able to give you the wise-counsel you seek and not people on social media.

Courtyard villas do not have zero clearance lot lines. The villas are about 10 feet apart, and the property line is located midway between the houses. However, the deed restriction covenant document establishes a "side yard" easement that is somewhat complicated, but it clearly defines the rights and responsibilities of each neighbor. If you live in a courtyard villa, I would suggest you print the deed restrictions and read them very carefully. You actually need to read it several times to fully comprehend the terminology and rules. The document can be found on the "distrctgov.org" website.

Correct. Those who do not live in a CYV often do not understand, nor do they have to.

Thanks! Right now we only have a red and brown Cardinal and a Mockingbird who live in the hedge. The mockingbird sits in the tree in the corner and guards the yard, I've even seen him chase a Hawk away. I've seen the Hawks kill about 3 doves in the past couple of years, rip them to pieces. Normally the doves are eating all day from those feeders, in fact we had added third one since the photo.

We normally go through a 25 pound bag of Safflower Seed every two weeks or less, plus grapes and peanuts. The squirrels and black birds don't like Safflower seed. This is the slowest I've seen the bird activity right now and we've feeding them for four years. Come March we'll have a couple more Cardinals if the red one allows it, 4 Brown Thrashers, they love the nuts and grapes, a lot more doves, and maybe a female mockingbird by then. Squirrels we've only got one now, he likes the nuts for sure. We had as many as 4 squirrels, but many neighbors have Massey put out rat poison and the squirrels get into that unfortunately.

But, not the neighbors house wall. Nothing should touch you neighbors wall ( no plants, nothing leaning, nothing attached) If something causes damage they can hold them libel. actually in my district nothing can be within foot which included curved drive way that leads to garage. Just like my entry I can’t have nothing within foot of neighbors house wall. (which includes trimming bushes at least foot off their house wall.

Not as clear cut, you have to know you’re district and you’re plot number, not all plots or districts are not same ( even if in same district don’t mean all villas have same rules) Plus the X blocks that allows this or that or don’t allow are also hard to figure out.

But, I can almost guarantee nothing can attach or touch to you’re neighbors house inside the yard. And can’t repaint neighbors house wall cause it’s not their property. Neighbor might may say go ahead, but when they sell that’s when problem starts.

When I’m out waking see violations all time. Plant vines growing up Side of houses, bushes planted too close, palms planted to close, stuff hanging on walls that not theirs. Easements and restrictions are there for reason.
