Default hello from cold snowy maine

Hello , my parents live in the villages and I am strongley considering moving down in the not to distant future. I have a few questions 1st off I am 48 and my girlfriend is 42 with a 13 y/o daughter who would be coming with us, We intend on working in the villages at the hospital and emergency medical services (R.N. and Paramedic ) 1. can we live within the Villages before I turn 55 ? 2. can her daughter attrend the charter school system within the villages , and lastly if we decided to live in an abutting community can I gain access to the villages via golfcart ? as silly as it sounds golf cart transportation is a huge part of my decision making process... thanks for your time and anticipated responses Glenn / Catherine

Glenn ...

You can buy a house if you are under 55; up to 20% of the homes can be owned by persons under 55 and we are nowhere near that threshold.

Your biggest issue is the 13 yr old. No one under 19 can live in the Villages, so, that may bust your bubble right there.

There are 2 all age communities that border the Villages that have golf cart access. Buffalo Ridge (relatively new, maybe around 2008) up near Southern Trace shopping on 466/CR 101; Another called something Oak over near Target on 441.

Eligibility for the Charter schools is based on employment. Since she is your girlfriend and not wife, then, she would have to be employed at a business that is Charter School eligible...generally a Villages business, hospital/medical on villages accessible property, contractors. Certainly a criteria she should check out with any prospective employer.

thank you very much for your input, it is all in the preplanning stage at this point with an original goal of 6 years (my 55th b-day) I am working on moving up that date by several years . I fell in love with the villages 1st time I visited everything at my disposal.

That's what I thought. But I learned quickly the labor isn't cheap. I'm not sure but I think there's a union involved as well. They tend to go on strike a lot not to mention demanding raises without improved work effort. If you look at them cross eyed, they call child services on you. Dump the kid and get a dog.

There are a couple of Villages here that you may live in and have children under the age of 19. For your child to attend the Charter school you have to be employed in The Villages. On the north side of The Villages there are some housing developments that can access their way in via a couple of trails. Hope it works out for you!

That is true but those areas are not part of The Villages and do not have The Villages amenities. There is NO place in TV that children under 19 can live for more than 30 days in a year.

thanks for all the input, some of the info I did find online, our original plan was 6 years which makes me 55 and she would be off to college but plans are changing rapidly, I wasnt very kind to my body over the years and am now paying the price and as much as I love winter I am thinking I prefer to just visit it for 2 weeks every year and go icefishing, as far as charter school goes we are in contact with a travel nurse agency and trying to get that answer if she works at the hospital or long term care facility will her daughter qualify to attend TV Charter.. Myself on the other hand has had just about enough of public safety although I am considering working as a Paramedic within the villages public safety as residents there are people who have worked for a living and made something of themselves not my normal clientel of waiting for a handout ( sorry my bitterness and jaded outlook showing thru). thank you all so much for your input

I sound inhospitable and I am sorry for that, but if we encourage people to move here who have younger children or are too young to retire in that they move here with no jobs than we encourage an unstable economy and foreclosures.

I stand corrected,...it would still be great to live close to Grandma & Grandpa!
