Hi,
I just found this site today and I'm excited to hear more about the Villages from people who know it well. I've visited four times. I'm retiring March 1, putting my house on the market and hope to move during the Summer. I'm an Auburn graduate and a huge fan. I've noticed lots of fan clubs and wondered if there would be one for Auburn. Of course, if not, I'll need to start one before Fall! |

We have ALWAYS been Tigers!!!! War Eagle is our battle cry due to an old Civil War Legend, that occurred during the first AU vs GA game in Piedmont Park in Atlanta.
At least we know how to correctly spell the word, "GO" and not Geaux!!!! WAR EAGLE!!! Army Guy

I so glad to see that there are a few War Eagle fans in tv. Just making sure I won't have to watch the Iron Bowl alone!

Lelandjane, we won't be able to join you, cause we are always there! We get season tickets to all the home games and alot of the away games. That was one of the things we really had to look at about deciding to retire to TV, that it is in driving distance to Auburn! WAR EAGLE! Army Guy

That is some interesting info. My daughter (a Tiger Fan of a different stripe that does not say "Geaux", either) was married in Piedmont Park. k

I know what you mean! As much as I love tv, I can't imagine not being here w ith those 100,000 on Fall afternoons. I live in Opelika. Both of my sons (AU graduates) live away and have season tickets. I know I would miss it terribly.
I guess I'll just travel north a lot in the Fall! War Eagle! |

Kate, great hearing from ya! Wow, Piedmont park would be neat for a wedding! But that is the home to the oldest rivalry game in the South, Auburn vs GA.
I have also been trying to reach your friend but right now we are playing "phone tag"!!! The War Eagle Legend, is that when Auburn closed for the Civil War, all the male students went off to fight. In one of the last battles before it ended, I can't remember which one, this one Auburn student was knocked out by a blast nearby. When he woke up, the battle was over and he was left on the battlefield among the dead. As he started walking away to hopefully regain his unit, he heard a bird chirping near him. Upon looking around he found a nest in an old tree that a cannon ball had knocked over and an eaglet in it. He picked the eagle up and carried it with him. When he finally found his unit, the war was over, and he carried the eagle back to Auburn and raised it as a pet. The eagle went with him everywhere. Well, he and the eagle where at the 1st Auburn/GA game there in Piedmont park and Auburn was losing badly. During the last half of the game the eagle got away from the student and just started circling over the field. Auburn fans noticed it and started saying, "Look at the War Eagle!" And as fate would have it, as the eagle soared above them, the Auburn team began to score, and with that everyone shortened the cry to just, "War Eagle!" over and over to continue to charge the players up, and ensured an Auburn victory. Since that day, the battle cry for Auburn continues to be War Eagle!!!! And it is used as a greeting among fans, and a sign of celebration at other times. It has been said that a War Eagle cheer never goes unanswered, that somewhere in the world, another Auburn fan is always replying! WAR EAGLE!!!! Army Guy
