The historic village
CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THE HISTORIC VILLAGE, IS THAT THE AREA THAT HAS THE MOBILE HOMES. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE AND USING IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS TILL WE FIND OUT WHAT AREA WE SHOULD BUY IN, AS I WILL NOT BE RETIRING FOR A COUPLE MORE YEARS. DO PEOPLE RENT THEM OUT ? WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR RESALE? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

The historic section is north of 441. Some of the homes are manufactured. You can rent there and some like it better than the new offerings. If you have a map look for the Village of Silver Lake. There are some homes for sale and the bonds should be low or paid off. There are so many rentals in The Villages that you may be better off renting in different villages when you come. That way you can get a feel for different areas. Good Luck.

There is no such thing as the Historic Village. The three villages east of Highway 27 / 441 are quite commonly called the "historic district" of The Villages because they were the original parts of The Villages. Yes, most of the homes there are manufactured homes (not trailers or double wides). A lot of people love that area due to the mature landscaping and low or no bonds. Yes, you can rent homes there or rent out your own home. The three villages in the historic district ore Orange Blossom Gardens, Country Club Hills, and Silver Lake. Homes there are not the newest, largest, nor most modern in TV but there is a brisk market in resales. Your plan to buy there at a lower cost while you look around for a few years is viable but maybe not your best option. Explore other options (i.e. renting) and then do what suits you and your tastes and your budget. As long as you are in TV, you probably can't go wrong.

Maybe I am double-dipping or something, but I stopped by this thread to tell the person who asked the original question that I got into writing a little about my thoughts on the historic side this morning. But I wrote it in another thread titled "Should I move to TV?"
I figured it was faster to just pop in here and direct you to that thread if you are interested. (Am I allowed to do that? A redirect when I do not have time to write anything else? Seems rather shameless in one way. But it feels a lot like cross-referencing in another. And cross-referencing is a good thing. And besides I gotta get out of her this morning..... Oh well, protocol-schmotocol???) Boomer the Cross Referencer |

On protocol
Let me step aside a moment to answer a question.
It is fine to cross-reference, even to post a link to one's other post. Posting the identical post, the same post, twice is generally verboten. Now, back to the main subject, the historic side. |

I am glad that some of you cleared up that the houses are modular. I think Orange Blossom Hills has the prettiest swimming pool in The Villages.

I live in Country Club Hills on the historic side. Some of the houses are modular and some are "stick built" (site built homes). I have a site built "designer" as do my neighbors on either side of me. There is a nice mix of home types but again, it all depends on your individual taste. I like "this side" as I find it quiet and less busy but anywhere in The Villages is great (we all love our own neighborhoods best!).

My husband and I got married last July and moved to the village of Country Club Hills into a manufactured home he already owned till I sold my house in Alabama. That just happened last month and we moved to Bell Aire. We love our new house and neighborhood. I'm really glad we lived inCCH because we loved the area, the neighbors, the wonderful golf courses, and of course, the great pool. Also, when I first got here I had a completely different idea of the area I wanted to live permanently and having all that time to visit open houses and friends' houses, I completely changed my mind. I think it would be a gret idea to buy, if you can. The houses in that area rent very well and there are lots of other part time people there looking to make new friends. Good luck. You're gonna love it here

Do you know the way....
We are closing on ours on the 'Historic side' on the 29th and were wondering if the only way to get to 'the other side' with a cart is via the bridge. In checking some of the cart rules, etc., my understanding is we can't cross 27/441 at a controlled intersection which would only leave the bridge. Is there any other way to cross?

Hi macro- As far as I know, the only way to get to "the other side" via cart is over the bridge. You cannot cross 27/441 in a regular golf cart (not sure if the same is true if your cart is "street legal").
If anyone knows another way, I'd be interested too as the bridge is the only way I know of.

Bridge is the only way across for "Golf Carts"
"Street Legal Carts" can cross at stop lights. (Bicycles can ride on the highway and cross at any intersection.) .
