Anyone use a moving company to move to TV? Didn't know there was a question about moving vans being allowed in TV??? Help! We should be there in July!

To my knowledge I haven't heard of any problems with moving vans not being allowed in TV, unless maybe not being parked overnight or blocking the street. I recommend contacting VCDD district offices for the right answer.

We used a moving company to move from two locations to TV. The furniture arrived a week apart on large moving trucks (i.e., Allied & Mayflower). There was never an issue with the moving trucks. Who told you that? I can't imagine not allowing moving trucks in a community of new houses selling like hotcakes continually. That would be bad business practice, IMO.

I should have clarified that for you. The VCDD is the Villages Community Developement District offices. They handle things like deed restrictions, utilities and the like. Once again I really don't know of an issue with moving trucks.

There has been the occasional issue with a full size tractor trailer actually not being able to fit in certain villa locations. A smaller truck had to be used to shuttle the load to the villa. Not really a problem, just a longer more expensive process.

For what it's worth I recently checked into moving costs from Upstate NY for 2 bedroom apt. to Florida:

Traditional moving company - $4,700
PODS 16' POD - $3,300 for 30 days
Penske 16' truck - $1,135 for 6 days/unlimited miles (with 12% AAA discount). Extra days are $50. ~$550 for gas.

PODS are nice if you need the extra time or especially if you need to store your things.

Probably a local that location only issue, but it makes one think.

I just realized this thread was started in January. But... there's always people moving here, so good advice, esp. about pods.

Our son and dil had a bad experience storing contents of their apartment in DC when they moved to Australia. DO be sure you pay every month, and I would suggest notl to have this monthly payment charged to your credit card. They did. The card was compromised and shut down, but they didn't know that in time in OZ and payment was rejected. Contents of storage were sold. His beloved string bass was in there. (Dumb, I know, but no time to drive it to us before they left.)

We had a helluva time tracking down who bought that bass, and I had to truck across three states to buy it back for him. Be careful of these storage facilities. Some of them are ruthless. Vet them well.

remember to get rid of the stuff that you really do not need. personal momentos (like you elementary school report cards) have no value at all to anyone. i got rid of all of the books, and donated them to the library. unless i plan to read them again(highly unlikely) you don't need them. unless the clothing fits you, get rid of it. bed linens for beds that you no longer have, get rid of it. clothes that you were saving for that 'painting project'...get rid of them, you are not going to paint!!

Thanks for the response!! Saw it posted somewhere on TOTV, but then there is so much posted! Glad to learn it was ok!!! When visiting TV, noticed so many roads were narrow and winding - was a bit worried!! Everyone seemed to be talking about "pods".
