Hello. I am Christie and my husband is Harry. We live in PA in a country local. We have two friends that are living in TV and are considering the move for ourselves also. We have had enough cold weather and are ready to head to TV. We have not been there yet - just reading info on it. We have so many questions before we make our trip down to check out things. Hopefully August over my vacation from work. I hope to retire in 1 year. My husband is already retired. He is a clock repair man now since retiring.
We love the pictures we have seen of TV. Could you tell me just what a bond is and also, are there hurricanes there? We have heard talk and I would rather hear from people living there. This is a big step for us as we will be leaving 2 daughters and their husbands, 4 grandchildren and everything familiar to us here. But we think we are ready for the change. Any info you can provide us with would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and looking forward to seeing some of you in August. ![]() |

The bond is the cost of the infrastructure of your area in The Villages, the streets, the streetlights, the electric and sewer lines, the entire preparation that in most homes up north is included in the cost of the new home. It is a separate fee here and the villages makes money on you if you don't pay it off right away by charging interest.
This figure is close if not accurate at this time. The cost of the bond on a designer home, or a home between about 1500 sq.ft. and 2000 sq.ft. is ABOUT $23,000. It is less on a cottage and more on a premier home. I can't tell you whether you should move here or anywhere. We find it to be a wonderful way of life but our grandchildren are grown now, one in college and one launched in a career, If you haven't done so go to thevillages.com and ask them to send you an information packet and it even has a pretty accurate cost of living. On a new home they only accept a conventional loan but you can use VA or FHA on a resale. They do NOT have any indoor pools and they do not have a big fancy performance center. But they have a lot of cool things like a polo field and a heck of a lot of might pretty golf carts. If I were you, when you retire, I would rent for awhile in the slow season, it is cheaper and decide for yourself if you could bear to be away year round from your family. Many people opt to buy a less expensive home and come down here for part of the year. I hope I have helped.

Welcome to TOTV -- this forum has tons of information for people thinking about moving to The Villages. If you are planning to visit in August, you could contact The Villages sales office to schedule a Lifestyle Visit (LSV). I would think the rates in August for a LSV would be pretty reasonable as that is considered off season as opposed to visiting during the winter months. There are also many places available to rent in The Villages even during the summer months, some for as short as one week. You may want to check The Villages 4 Rent, Rentals in The Villages or VRBO® is Vacation Rentals By Owner if you want to check out homes for rent in TV. Keep reading and posting questions on TOTV, and good luck in your search. ![]() |

Welcome to the TOTV forum ~ you can get soooo much helpful information here. Our first visit was for a day while spending time at Disney, the following year we did a LSV for one week, and we were sold, as we found what we were looking for and made the move. Luckily when we came for our LSV we had already sold our house in PA and were in a position to move forward with this dream. GOOD LUCK!!! You WILL love it here.....

I am from Pa, too, but I wish I was in the Villages right now, as I sit here looking out at the trees blowing and waiting for the snow that is predicted for today. We visited the Villages 5 years ago with the LSV and fell in love with everything. Bought a house and thought we would live the dream, but found out giving up all we have been used to and just moving was a very difficult decision to make. We visit the Villages a couple of times a year, but just can't seem to make the big final move. I think I am ready, but my husband thinks he will miss the snow and change of seasons?!?! We live in a rural area just north of Reading. Rick and Nadine, from Mohnton...do you ever miss your home in Pa?

am also from Pennsylvania, suburbs of Philadelphia. do not miss the gray damp weather in the spring fall and winter. the sunshine here is very appealing. and year-round gardening is so much fun. we sometimes miss the family, but our children are grown and even though they lived only about 35 miles from us we saw them only a few times a year. they can come visit here anytime.

Disney World is 56 miles away and would make for a great visit place for the grand kids. As they get older they will develop other interest and you wouldn't see them as much. TV offers a great place to visit for them and your children. I think it's very natural for being concerned oVer a big move. Renting for several months would give you a better idea if you miss PA, kids, grand kids and the things you are familiar with.
Some pre-owned homes don't have a bond or very little. Some people might miss the change of seasons but the winter is a bear to deal with as it's going to snow again and I personally wouldn't miss not shoveling snow or having to deal with driving. I prefer the palm trees swaying to the winds howling. There are hurricanes but TV is in central Florida and the hurricane winds are usually diminished by the time they reach TV. I can't really say whether you would be totally safe but then nothing in life is guaranteed. I hope this helps.

Thank you for all the info you gave me. It was very informative! I purchased your group e-book last night and began reading it. I am learning a lot from it. Hoping to see some of you when we come down in August!

If you send for the packet of info and the film from thevillages.com, no one will follow up, call, or hound you.

![]() Like I said, there isn't a place to live without some sort of risk. I was under the false delusion the northeast was safe.
