Default Cell Phone Providers

In our move to The Villages we are concerned about our cell phone coverage. Do you feel Verizon has the best overall coverage at TV?

Thanks

My suggestion is that you wait until you actually move to The Villages. So much depends on where you live and the places you frequent. That said, we use Consumer Cellular. They have the best customer service ever. You can switch your minutes up and down from month to month as you need them, retroactively within the month. There is no contract. Most of the phones are free. The phones are designed for older folks with larger keyboards and so on. The system uses AT&T lines.

So, AT&T folks, send me my check! lol! Anyway that's my $0.02

Ditto.

Plenty of feedback in various prior threads re: people's perspectives on cell phone service/coverage in TV. Some have no problems with AT&T, for example...........yet others have to make their phone calls standing in a roundabout with a tin foil hat on while holding a ten foot antenna in one hand!

I personally believe most people's coverage issues are in the south end of TV which is obviously going to continue to grow. Adequate cell phone coverage will probably lag but should catch up over time.

Verizon customers seem to post the least number of complaints here - AT&T, the most. JMHO!

If you are an existing Verizon customer, I'd not worry. We have visited TV 6 or 7 times and our Verizon performed perfectly.

Verizon has been great here in the southern end (Buttonwood) and never a problem wherever we've been in TV. In fact, I've never been out of area anywhere in this North Central Florida area.

It depends on what you use your cell phone for. I picked up Consumer Cellular while in Ohio since my AT&T phone didn't work in my house. Good, cheap service if all you want is a cell phone. My smart phone is linked to Verizon. No problems with coverage in The Villages (or my home in Ohio). I also use the Verizon Home Connect for my "landline". I would definitely stay away from AT&T. Terrible coverage nationwide!

Thanks to all who have replied..... It sounds like I will keep Verizon as my provider while in TV.

We both have AT&T and we have had no problems in TV, north or south of 466. I think allot depends on the phone itself. We did have major problems with Sprint a few years ago souht of 466.

Default reception

I had AT & T while we were still working in Ohio, and reception was not good here in Sabal Chase. Ohioboy had his workphone with Sprint/Nextel. Worked fine in both locations, so we got a Sprint contract when we retired. We have 2 different phone types. Awful reception here in Sabal Chase and also back in Ohio. Don't know if also having Nextel made a difference or what.

Anyway, our contract is up in October. We would love to get Consumer Cellular as we just need voice, don't need smart phones, and the price is cheaper than Verizon. However, it's the same AT&T problem of reception. A while back there was mention of new towers coming in September - was that just a rumor?

whatever you do , DO NOT get AT%T. We get NO reception , calls drop all the time and they won't let us out of contract. Can't answer for Verizon. perhaps someone else can. I can only recommend you stay away from AT&T. Good luck
