Default Rental Cars

We are coming down to close on our new home in Duval at the end of this month, We are flying into Orlando, and not considering the Villages shuttle but are thinking that a rental car is our best option for the five days as we do not have a golf cart. The prices we are quoted are all over the map. Is there a site any one could refer us to for a fair quote?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for all of the information I have gotten from visiting this very nice forum,

Default Rental Cars

Hi,

I was down at the end of April to procure our home in Pennecamp and we close tomorrow May 18th by mail.

I used Enterprise for my car, it was the least expensive. The Enterprise office at Sumter Landing was $20 a day more.

I spent all five days running around the Villages making arrangement for everything from insurance to finding a church. You'll need a car.

I have used Hotwire.com for a rental car many times. I feel that I save quite a bit. You have to pay for the car up front with no refund if you don't show up. You don't know what rental car company it is until you book the car however it has always been Hertz or Avis. It is about half the price and I have used them many many times and will continue unless I find a better deal.

Remember you pay up front and if you don't go and use the car you are out of luck. But if you know that you are going to go for sure then why not?

Have you considered a one-way rental to TV? Enterprise ahs an office in LSL. You can rent from the airport and return it to the office in LSL. Then rent on there for the one-way trip back. They charge a drop-off for the return trip, but not coming to TV (go figure) but it will likely cost less. Meanwhile, you can rent a colf cart for the remaining days. It's really the most enjoyable way to get around.

Have done this several times in the last year and the best rates I have found have been thru AARP travel section.

Steve's advice is good - but consider if you will need to go outside "the bubble" while you are here. If you want to look at golf carts to buy, unless you are sure you want Yamaha, you need a car to get you there. Same is true if you are looking at furniture shopping beyond SL and it's companion store on 466.

Even if you rent a car, you may want to rent a golf cart for a couple of days. I know someone who rents by the day off season - PM me if you are interested.
