Default Seeking advice

We are currently living in Rome, Italy and are having a house built in Sanibel. After decades of living as a "Global Nomad" (California, Hawaii, Tampa area, Thailand, Netherlands, Slovakia, Barbados, Italy), I am excited, and a little nervous, about setting down roots. I would appreciate any advice about how to make the transition, such as doing nothing for a while versus joining clubs/activities right away?

Oh just relax and play it by ear, you will be fine. There are probably hundreds of people here who have traveled the world for one reason or other during their working lives and they manage just fine. Get here, get unpacked and let everything fall into place - believe me it will.

Wow - after all that exposure to the world I'm curious why you chose The Villages. I hope you are an avid golfer because my observation so far (have been here since June) is this is definitely a golf community. There are lots of other activities available, but seems like golf is the common thread in our community, which is why I took up the game at age 63!

You can be as busy as you like or not be busy, it's up to you.

There are many activities/clubs available in TV.

Nice area,,, newly built and still building there now. Best you can do is play it day by day. Keep busy doing things. Do not just sit around the house, if you do stay at home alot,, keep busy with the house,, changing,, adding or what ever. Alot to do around here. Just because you are settling down in one spot, does not mean you can not visit other places still. Have Fun!!

Join the clubs that definitely are interest to you. Wait with the ones that you think you might like. Since you're moving into a new neighborhood, there will probably be a lot of neighborhood things going on. Those alone can keep you hopping. So, do what is comfortable to you and leave it at that. You really can't go wrong.

I joined the Expat Club as I too was based in Tokyo, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. Many of the members have been stationed in many countries. We get together once a month at a restaurant or at a rec center. There is an official name but I always called it Expat Club so the official name currently escapes me. Am sure you'll have no difficulty finding the correct name. If not, PM me. Welcome to TV.

I know a half dozen people who have had extensive stays in places all over the world...and those people like it here from their reports.

I wish you welcome and know that you will enjoy this place and its' main attraction to me anyway, the people who live here. Don't delay in joining in anything that interests you.

Thank you. My husband (jackz) talks about you all the time -- your wisdom, your fabulous attitude, your sage advice.

I had a brief day or two when we first got down here to spend the winter two years ago when I felt I had no friends. I decided to just put a smile on my face and talk to anyone that smiled back. That was sooo easy in TV where everyone is ready to talk. Just doing that made me feel more at home. Also, enjoy your neighborhood pool. I couldn't bare the thought of being in a swim suit for our first 3 years. I finally bit the bullet and bought one. That and a foam noodle float have made afternoons at the pool so fun and relaxing. We love bobbing around in the pool and chatting with all the friendly people!!

Welcome: We have lived and traveled all around the globe as well. We had the same feeling three years ago when we settled here. We love it here more now than we did when we moved in. Stay away from religion and politics and enjoy the rest. We have only taken two trips in these three years as there is so much to do right here in The Villages. Ask questions on this Web Site and like us you can save money and make better decisions based on the answers you will find right here.
