Are you allowed to have a small storage building on your property?
Specifically, in a CYV, can I put in a 10x10 shed for storage? |

I think that is totally unfair the refer to those homes as outbuildings...

Item No. 4 of the Covenants and Restrictions (summary only) document that I received during my LSP visit states:
"All outside structures for storage or utility purposes must be attached to the home..." |

I read somewhere in all the house closing papers that any storage building had to be attached to the house.

No. In TV, storage is generally in attics and garages. I don't know of any CYVs that allow out buildings. You'll probably be inviting neighbours over to your CYV, and I'd think you would really want to be in compliance with the covenants.

http://www.districtgov.org/departmen...terCounty.aspx p.s. when I wrote the above I forgot we were talking about CYV's and what I've stated was about designers. What I've stated could be completely off base. Read your CYV's declerations.

I had seen a picture on the MLS that had a small storage building in the back yard of a CYV. Obviously the owner has not been reported or it had not been seen. |

I saw a large plastic storage unit in a courtyard villa while at an open house there.

I think that common sense applies here. If a person has a chest on their lanai by the pool that is screened in so pool toys can be stored, that is common sense that would be allowed.
If the person has a 10 foot by 10 foot storage shed outdoors in plain view, common sense dictates it is not allowed. For a CYV, I would suggest checking with the appropriate Villages office before putting a storage shed in the courtyard. That probably is a better idea than all the various opinions of this forum - although all are well intentioned - go right to the source and find out in person. |
