After all of your good advice...here's the update:
I am renting a home for all of October. Have kitten/will travel. I might have already found a home...it's hard to say until I get down there. I am totally freaked out about the "conceal and carry" thread. I grew up in an organized crime family and I get violence...I was hoping to avoid it in the Villages. Especially, as my mouth runs left of center. I love the "Music" thread and hope to hang with Winston. I love Gracie. I have arranged for a car rental for all of October...methinks this is really stupid. Is access to a golf cart enough and if so, what's the taxi/limo/bus cost back and forth to MCO? Any single girls wanna join me for the Halloween thing at Universal. Gracie, I will pay for you to keep me in line..well as in line as Prince Harry in Vegas. Any advice for this newbie is more than welcome. I'm humble and looking for a second life after 30 years married to Voldemort. Cheers! |

We visited 7 times, and have lived here full time for 4 weeks. Every time we have had need for our car. There are so many places to go that you cannot reach by cart. The squares are nice, but we never did go there very often. There are many places to eat, but they seem more geared for a visitor. There are also many places that you can get to via a long cart ride. My darling wife doesn't appreciate her hair going up and out on those long rides! Me either ... I still have almost all of my hair! My point is, there are so many places worth going that are not easily reached by cart, you may consider a car. A month is a long time to be confined on campus.

Car rental -- I believe Enterprise a has car rental place in TV if you just want to rent a car for a few days or a week to get "off campus". There is Villages Transportation shuttle service (don't know the exact name, but I'm sure a TV resident knows the correct name) that offers shuttle service back and forth from Orlando International Airport. I rented last year in October and will be back in October for another visit. Last year the weather was unexpectedly cool for a couple of days -- I needed a jacket LOL. But many people say October is one of the best months to visit TV as far as weather goes. Don't hesitate to ask TV residents how they like living in TV. Most are very happy to share their experiences with you. Hope you and the kitten have a great time. ![]() |

my parents came for 11 weeks and didn't have a car... once they got the back roads to SS down, they enjoyed grocery shopping and going to church in the cart, told us they never missed a car

My next-door neighbor comes down by herself sometimes. She and her husband both own businesses in NJ, so they haven't retired yet. She uses this car service from Orlando: Charlie and Friend's Car Service $85.00 per car 352 205-1212
cell 352 430 3925 land line or chaswitte@aol.com The TV shuttle is probably cheaper, but with this company, the car is yours alone, so no extra time spent dropping other people off. |

It can take you a few days to learn how to get around in a golf cart. If you get lost no problem in asking for help. AAA has a free detailed Village map for members. This may only be available at the Village AAA. There is also a village map that you can buy that is not as detailed but maybe easier to us. You need a map before you try to get to a square. I would keep the car the first few days and maybe get one the last day or two if there is some place you want to go. If you have a GPS take it. The Villages is very large. I would drive around in a car the first day and then use the golf cart to get to both squares. Note you will use a combination of roads and golf cart paths and have to go through tunnels and it is not too difficult to get lost. I would plan on being home before dark.

geewiz - guess the decision might also depend on how comfortable you will be driving a golf cart in the rain without windshield wipers - vs not going out if/when it is raining...the latter is easy to do in a car!

I do not remember where you live, but everytime we have come down, including the move to TV this year, we have come by auto train. That way we had the convenience of being able to bring everything we wanted without worring about the weight allowance, and we were able to use both our car and cart.

Please post a "trip report"!!!
DH and i will be doing a LSV in mid September. I am so excited to actually experience a bit of The Villages. My parents are just starting to need me more (AR) as well as FIL in MA, so there is noooo way we can buy right now/make any concrete plans. Still, it will be fun to imagine what life might be in such a place. |

Gosh - I love you guys...the jury is still out on the need for a 30 day car rental...more insights are welcome...but, I've booked the plane, told the kitty (she instantly went to the litter pan due to travel fear) and I think a home contract is close at hand. GW
