I can think of several flash points around the globe involving nations with hair-trigger issues; any one of which could explode into a major conflagration in literally a matter of hours at most, and such things have a domino effect that enhances the spread even farther and quicker. For those who don't ignore history, think of world war one. It took just 37 days from the instant the match was lit (gavrilo princip assassinating archduke franz ferdinand) to most of europe being engulfed. And that was in 1914, when communication consisted of telegraph, rudimentary telephones, newspapers, carrier pigeons and the like. Consider how much faster word of things would spread today--until of course the internet itself gives up the ghost.

Is there a good place to be "if and when"? I doubt it. Florida has ample water--assuming one has the equipment and ability to purify it--and various edible critters. But self-sufficiency for most of tv's age group (septuagenarians and up) is mostly a pipe dream. We're dependent, despite how much we might like to lie to ourselves. Twenty years ago? Maybe. I was a pretty good shot and enjoyed both hunting and foraging, with northern minnesota being my source of experience. But today? Maybe for a short while, until the water supply and dried food ran out. But when the "scenery" all of a sudden becomes mushroom clouds (and florida is lousy with targets) then we're talking days. Weeks at the most. In such a situation i'd far prefer that one of those mushroom cloud - causers landed on my head instead of on the far horizon.

I recall reading a pretty scary statement some decades back, to the effect that "if world war iii is fought with nukes, then world war iv will be fought with spears, arrows and clubs". There is far more truth in that than any of us would care to admit. If the shtf event results in watching my loved ones starve and my hair falling out, then i'd opt for a quick, clean exit. Far better that, than experiencing hopelessness for whatever remains of my life.

that would be einstein. No one wins in a nuclear war where the world supply of air, water and earth is poisoned by radioactivity.

Also agree about the quick end. There would be nothing to think about.

Older people are not going to fare well in general, so be at peace with the good life you have lived, and hope you can hang on until things improve. Get in shape now if you're not already; by then it will be too late.
maybe the developer can build homes with bunkers

During WWII the people in France enjoyed eating rats.

Unfortunately, Florida is on the list.

The 5 Places In America You DON’T Want To Be When Society Begins To Collapse

The article is "written" by AI. First clue is that ALL the photos are AI. They aren't real places.

Every article by "John Walter" appears to be AI fake. Go to the top of the page and click on his name and check out the USA map in "The 5 Most Dangerous States in America by Crime Rate". LOL Texas is in Georgia and Nevada in N California, etc.

Don't be fooled, it's just more AI trash.

I'd stay in the middle of a big city. Why? Because everyone will have run away, afraid of the violence and destruction that would happen in a big city when the apocalypse comes. It'd be the most peaceful place in the country, and it'd be all mine.

It would be peaceful because everyone would be annihilated. Isn't crazy that as humanity goes, we couldn't figure out a way for this scenario to never happen? Mind boggling.

No one will be able to run. The roads will be jammed. Meanwhile as too many people fight for too few resources (with no guns except for the criminals) it's going to get ugly fast. Good luck with your plan, you're gonna need it.

Just saying that something was written by AI does not refute the validity of the article. You can’t just dismiss a story by saying it was on Fox or CNN.

Interesting take, for sure.

There've been numerous media depicting the results of a full-on nuclear exchange, much of it of the science fiction genre. One that wasn't, and one of the best in my opinion, was The Day After, a made-for-TV movie back in 1983. I only saw it the one time but it was, in a word, stark. It involved what were presented as real people, living real day-to-day lives, and how everything changed for them in a figurative heartbeat. I suppose one could dig it up online. It had an additional unplanned effect. Apparently the network broadcasting it ended up arranging counseling for some people who were traumatized by it.

Another interesting take was the book that came out about the same time, "Down to a Sunless Sea" by David Graham. The setting is a 747 at 100% occupancy and what happens when nuclear war breaks out while enroute. It is pretty dated now as it reflects the political and environmental situation of the 1980s, but still a great read.
