Default Biggest Moon Tonight

Just thought you'd like to know:

BIGGEST FULL MOON OF THE YEAR: The Moon that's causing trouble for the Geminid display happens to be biggest full Moon of 2008, as much as 14% wider and 30% brighter than lesser Moons we've seen earlier this year. An astronomer would say this is a "perigee Moon" because it occurs at perigee, the side of the Moon's elliptical orbit closest to Earth. Go outside tonight and take a look. The meteor rate may be low, but the lunar beauty index is off the charts.

One of my favorite movies is Moonstruck.... I'll be outside saying... "la luna.... la luna"....

but then again, one of my favorite movies is the original Wolfman with Lon Chaney Jr.... remember what the gypsy Conswelia said to him as she peered into his palm and saw the sign of the pentagram...," even those who are pure in heart and say their prayers by night... may become a wolf when the wolfbain blooms and the moon is full and bright"

If you see a skinny guy growing hair and running amok in Duval.... remember, I'll be OK when the sun comes up.

Moonstruck Fumar ...

uu,

I love it when you give us a "heads up" on this stuff.

Tonight, while Mr. Boomer and I were out on a romantic drive to -- where else?? -- Home Depot, I saw that moon and it just knocked me out. Wow!

Oh good! I never know if I'm boring everybody with the space news.
There's also the Geminid Meteor Shower this weekend, but the bright moon will interfere with the display. Normally, as many as 100 meteors per hour shoot out of the constellation Gemini, but with the full perigee moon you'll only be able to see 20 or so. That's still a nice show. For best results, watch the sky after 10 PM Saturday night (Dec 13th) until dawn on Sunday morning (Dec 14th).

Hahaha! Boomer! How strange! I saw the moon while going to Home Depot also. Some weird TOTV side effect? LOL

It was absolutely stunning.
