My favorite American beer is Samuel Adams. Heck, it's probably my favorite beer, period. I love their seasonal beers. I love their regular stuff. It tastes like beer not some watered down version that is closer to what I imagine urine tastes like than anything truly drinkable. The company making Sammy is Boston Beer Company.
Anyway, hops growth is way down for the past two years. Boston Beer Company is giving 20,000 lbs of hops to competing craft beer makers. This, to me, is what an American company should do -- help out those who need help in any way they can, even a competitor, so long as it doesn't hurt them. Three cheers to Boston Beer Company! May more companies follow their example.

Living in Boston I've had the opportunity to tour the company. Very impressive. I like Sam's as well.
Strange comparison - beer/urine but i get the point. |

Russ, there's a more accurate description for Bud Light and its ilk?

On a trip to Boston a few years ago, I took the T to visit the Boston Beer Co. The area reminded me very much of the Bronx. They brew very little beer in Boston and it's more for PR but I enjoyed the samples nontheless. Their beer is consistently good, except maybe for their Cranberry Lambic which is not a favorite. Wish more places would offer it on tap in stead of the ubiquitous Amber Boch. Maybe in time.

Most of their beer is crafted in Iowa. Amazingly, they sold/gave quite a bit of their hops to other craft breweries in Iowa. I really do love their willingness to help keep their competitors in business.
BTW -- They sold the hops at cost, no profit whatsoever. A couple of the smaller breweries were even given some of the hops gratis.
