Are there any restrictions on medications in bigger quantities that can be brought into the US? I will be bringing prescription medications only, I will buy vitamins locally when I am in FL.

My drug plan allows me a three month supply, to be dispensed at one time and I can get an additional two month supply pre- approved. So, is it ok to bring a 5 month supply across the border?

Who is going to know if you have a five month supply of medicine with you?

I would guess as long as you have the meds in their original containers there would be no problem in the event of any questions - and the containers are in your name, of course.

Reason I ask is that occasionally C&BP do an in depth check of a vehicle. We have been inspected once when driving into the US. I just want to make sure I am doing it right and not exceed any limits.

My sister visited us in Kissimmee a couple years ago and had accidentally left her prescription meds in the UK. She had her son send them via FedEx, they arrived in the US, but FedEx refused to deliver them. She ended up having to declare them as abandoned.

She then saw a doctor in Kissimmee who required her physician in the UK fax her prescription to him before he would prescribe. It ended up costing her over $400 for $30 worth of meds.

If the price is better and it is not illegal.....why not?

Many generics are allowed in Canada and other countries long before the USA pharmacy business and the government allow.

And please don't talk about how they may not be safe yet. It is the same generic, produced by the same companies that will provide it to the USA once the pharmacies and the government have fleeced the US citizen with higher prices.

Good information. We will be visiting for about 140 days so I need be careful according to this.

I have been ordering & rceiving my meds from Planet Drugs Direct in Canada for a few years now.......I email my prescription and they send the meds. I have never had a problem.

PS my physician told me about this company

I am sure you will be ok as long as they are in there appropriate pill container with your name etc on the bottle.

Why not use WalMart or Publix? My health insurance takes care of my prescriptions through Medco or Publix.

My drug plan is billeld directly by our pharmacist we only pay the co-pay. If I am away from home, then I have to pay everything up front and claim for refund of the non co-pay portion.
Also, my pharmacy say I would need to use an MD in FL as US pharmacies won't honor a Canadian prescription unless the MD has a state license for FL

I am glad you asked this question as it has been our mind here in the UK too! When we leave the UK (within a few weeks, yippee) we shall be bringing a 6 month supply to hold us over until we can get a new doctor and prescriptions and even health insurance for that matter so fingers crossed all works well for you and for us! I would of thought if the tablets are in their original boxes, etc and they are prescribed for you then therefore you should be aloud to have them

Good luck. I must admit, I have never been asked about prescription medications when entering the US and we cross the border 3-4 times each year, by plane and by car.
I will keep everything in the original containers and trust they won't ask if I have more than 90 tablets.

I've been spending six months every winter in the Villages, starting in 2007. I've never had a problem obtaining prescription Meds for six months in Canada, and I've never been asked at a border crossing whether I'm importing Meds.

We obtained Nexus cards last year, which makes entry into the US even faster.
