Default Car converted to run on water instead of gas? Calling all car experts!

Did you all see the news story about the Orlando man who converted his car to run on water? Is this possible? There's an inexpensive DIY conversion kit available. I checked Snopes and there wasn't any info there that I could find.

I wouldn't want to ruin my car, but if it's safe and if it works, I'd do it. I'd be interested to hear if any of you car experts are familiar with this.

Here are links to the story & info about the kit:

Thanks for any advice.

Not possible with present technology

It's a simple third grade science experiment.....using an anode and cathode and passing an electric current through water with an electrolite added. Baking soda or table salt will work as the electrolite with distilled water. Electrolysis (the electric current passing through the solution) will separate the hydrogen and oxygen in the water. The gas produced is fed into the air intake of the car as a supplement to the car's original fuel system. In this guy's diagrams there is no indication of a method to control the amount of gas produced or amount fed into the intake manifold or air inlet. I have my doubts as to how an unregulated amount of flammable gas like hydrogen will run my car. Also...how much hydrogen can something this small produce? Is it worth the effort? Claims of huge MPG increases seem unrealistic. You know what is said about things that seem to good to be true. I'd guess any warrantee from the automaker would be gone.

Do a Google search for topic "Make your own HHO gas"

Hydrogen from fuel cells......that's another story.

Use to drag race back in the late 60 and early 70 and we would have a water injection into the carb. After the engine was hot you turned on the injection house power would increase by 30% average but milage increase didnt care . Hydrogen gas is very explosive be careful

DDoug.....you brought back a few memories.
As you said, water injection was a modification used waaaaay back. Sometimes mixed with a bit of alcohol. The water injection raised the resistance to pre-ignition so more total ignition advance could be used. Oldsmobile used water injection to stop detonation in their 1962-1964 turbocharged 215ci V-8's (the Jetfire) available in the then new Cutlass. I don't remember if the turbo Corvair used water injection or not.

Also in my prior post about electrolysis being used to make hydrogen to be a supplemental fuel burned in a gasoline engine. I also mentioned hydrogen fuel cells. Fuel cells (the technology being experimented with currently by the auto makers) use compressed hydrogen to create electricity. That electric current is used for electric motors which move the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle would have to stop at a hydrogen fill point the way we now stop for gasoline. However electricity was used to make that hydrogen that was just put into the vehicle. So we started by making electricity, used it to make hydrogen, used the hydrogen to make electricity again to power the car.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed...only changed. Sir Issac Newton - The First law of Physics. Said another way.....there is no free lunch.
