Charity calling for donations
There are few charities I support often. Salvation Army, Breast Cancer and Alzheimer to name a few. Tonight I get a call from a caller ID that was "private caller". I hesitated to answer, but because of a few things happening with relatives and not knowing their caller ID method, I answered. It was breast cancer asking for donations. I told them no and that I had been a supporter in the past, and if they expected my further support to never call back using a private caller ID. I have always given to them, bought the things they sell at golf tournaments, 5K runs, and other ways. I will never support an organization that tries to get you under false pretense. They will lose my support with these tactics. How do others feel about this? Am I being to hard on them?
I support their cause completely, I do not support their tactics. Send me a mail request, call with an ID I recognize as them, but do not try to trick me into answering the phone. It just p****s me off.

my sentiments exactly!
I am on the Do Not Call Registry and the "charities" are not required to abide by this legislation. So, for curiosities sake, I kept track of all the so called charities like the fire, police, cancer, and all the rest of the telemarketers for one year. I had 465 phone calls in one year. Reasonable? I think not especially since they keep ringing the chimes until 9 PM at night! Maybe we need to get on these supposed great legislators that were elected and put a stop to harassment!

I have caller ID on my phones and my tv if tv is on. If I don't recognize the number or it says Private Caller, I let it go to the answering machine. After they hang up, and they never do leave a message, I Google the number to find out exactly what charity or group has called. We just came back from a short vacation and now I've got hotel chains calling in addition to all the others.
Never did count how many calls....I think I'd be afraid to...

If it is someone I know and are trying to reach me, they will call back or leave a message. Good idea to Google the phone number. I agree this can be very annoying at times. If I do pick-up the phone, I tend to just say I am not interested and hang-up, (my caller I.D. numbers are small and I don't have my reading glasses on so I might pick-up). I've been getting calls to ask me to do a survey. I am very wary about giving out personal information. I like the Jerry Seinfeld joke when a telemarketer called him at dinner time. "I was having dinner, Can I call you back when your having dinner" or something like that. |

The Do Not Call list is not applicable if you are a customer of the calling company. Hence the recent calls from the hotels you stayed at.

I know Ed and honestly, sometimes I want to just take a tent and camp out....but then I'd miss the nice hot shower, the flat screen tv, the internet hookup, free breakfast, air-conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter....ah, nuts, I guess I'll just have to put up with the calls. As an aside, since they couldn't get us by phone, we got an e-mail from the hotel chain....

I agree with all of you. If the caller ID says "unavailable" or "private" I do not answer it. Also, the police and fire departments to not solicit for funds by telephone. If you get one of these calls they are most likely a scam. Do not give out any personal information such as your credit card numbers.
